What's The Last Movie You’ve Seen?

I watched Vertigo for the first time in years. What a great great movie!

The Birds is still my favourite Hitchcock. So much deep meaning, so much emotion. Casting was good, acting was good. I also like the outdoor scenes and the small town setting provides really great suspense and atmosphere.

Rear window's a close second..

Hitchcock movies are amazing. I haven't seen The Birds since I was a kid. I've got Rear Window on the DVR to watch at some point.

The Birds definitely improves after a 2nd viewing as an adult.

I first watched it as a kid as well and thought it was just a scary movie about birds going crazy. It wasn't until I watched it again as an adult & read more about it online that I realised that there's more to it than that. Even the name of the movie "The Birds" has multiple meanings...

Watched Requiem for a Dream again the other night. The cinematography, and particularly the editing are just phenomenal. It's certainly not for the feint of heart, but it's quite the cinematic experience, if you have the stomach for it.

Any other Aronofsky fans here?

Yep. Never actually seen that though. Loved Pi. Liked Black Swan. Really like The Wrestler. In the latter two though, the main characters are sort of playing themselves so I think their performances aren't as strong as advertised, so to speak.

If you like his other movies, then you should definitely give Requiem a shot. The last 15 minutes is the most intense sequence of his career.

And what do you mean by "the main characters are playing themselves"?

Portman gives the same stressed out look she gives in every movie all the time and was a trained ballerina. Mickey Rourke, well, need I say more. It's like his life story so to speak.

If you guys like old black and white foreign films I would strongly recommend "Red Beard" (Japanese movie). I thought it was fantastic. I'm also a fan of some Italian Neo-Realism, such as, "Umberto D" and "Bicycle Thieves."

Best long movie I've seen other than TDKR was Zodiac that mother was intense for all 3 hours. Loved it.

Godfather? Godfather 2? LOTR? The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly?

Off the top of my head, these are the best (can watch any time) long movies.

Just as good as I remember it being back in the day.

I prefer New Italian Cinema to Neo-Realism.

I saw ParaNorman last night, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is stop motion animation at its finest. I love to see stop motion still being used for feature films. It's just too bad people tend to overlook them (low box office numbers) in favor of CG movies. It's sad when a crap CG movie earns more money just due to being CG. Stop motion has a lifelike quality to it that CG just can't touch. My little rant aside, ParaNorman is a great movie. It has a very good story with quite a bit of humor mixed in. The showing I attended had quite a few kids. The kids there really seemed to love it. A big group of kids clapped at the end. If you have kids that can handle some mildly (pretty tame) creepy elements, they would very likely enjoy this movie. Anyone who is a fan of stop motion, or just good animation in general, should also find enjoyment in this movie.

I'd recommend Mary and Max. It's without a doubt the most mature animated movie I've seen, and the animation is just beautiful.

EDIT: If you decide to watch it, I'm not sure you'll want your kids to join you. I don't think it has a rating, but it definitely had a bit of mature content for an animated movie (maybe like PG-13 stuff...maybe).
