What's The Last Movie You’ve Seen?

Agreed to a point. As soon as the agenda becomes the plot or almost comes in as a character then it becomes in most cases trash. I mean you could argue that "A Handmaid's Tale" is 100% agenda driven, but it's still largely a good story with excellent writing and production value. So yes it can be done. But it's simultaneously a good, well-written story, with excellent production and acting, etc. But I have yet to see that in the Star Wars world where the story is sacrificed on the altar of agenda. At least for the newest stuff and most of the stuff on Disney+. And in fact in articles and interviews those in control at Disney have stated as much. That they were never fans of the original series and are using this as a chance to retcon star wars and turn it into a vehicle for their agenda. And as a result it generates terrible stories.

Agreed, I think the distinction is mostly where the agenda is coming from. Is it being plugged for marketing purposes by corporate people trying to expand their appeal to a wider audience? Or is it a creative choice by writers who have something interesting and meaningful to say. It's a spectrum, and not one or the other but I think more of the latter results in a more engaging story. Staying with Star Wars, the worst I've seen was Kathleen Kennedy and co shoehorning in the character of Rose in The Last Jedi and giving her that ****** side quest at the casino planet. The subplot and character were widely and rightly panned by audiences (and also the actress herself was harrassed which was terrible).

Im currently watching Poor Things. Im still pretty early on but so far I would simply say its weird and interesting but not sure if I like it or not.
Ended up being a great movie. Got better as it went along. I thought the acting was amazing. Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, Ramy Youssef, Christopher Abbott, and especially Willem Dafoe (he deserves an Oscar for his performance) were all terrific. I loved the writing. Old timey proper english that was used in a hilarious way. I laughed many many times. Very funny movie. Had a great ending and had a pretty good message throughout the movie. I give it an 8.5/10. Only thing I didn't like was that there was too much sex and nudity. Some of it was warranted and necessary to the plot. Some of it was quite funny and well done. Some of it was unnecessary and pointless and I just wanted to get back to the actual movie/story. Only other complaint was that it took a while for me to really like it. But once i started liking it, it just got better and better.
I recommend it. Just know that there is a lot of sex and nudity (too much really)

Watched In A Violent Nature. One of the worst movies I have ever seen. So slow. Could have cut out like 45 minutes of the movie and not left anything out.

Watched The First Omen and Immaculate. They are basically the same movie. The First Omen is much better due to the fact that the lead actress is much better than the lead actress in Immaculate (Sydney Sweeneys hotness aside) Neither were particularly good though.

Now im watching Love Lies Bleeding. Good so far. Haven't watched much so far though.

Saw a group of Hs boys at the movie theater and asked them what they were seeing. They said, as I expected, Longlegs. Two hours later, when leaving, I happened to see the one kid again. I asked him how it was. He said, “It was butt.”

Quite accurate.

Loves lies bleeding had really good acting (especially Ed Harris and the muscle bound woman) and the plot was pretty good. Issue was that they threw in these really weird parts that didn't make any sense. Also there was some scenes that were a little too vulgar for me. (As I get older I find that I dislike sex scenes more)

Deadpool & Wolverine front runner superhero’s movie of the year.

Great fun from start to finish.

Soundtrack was awesome the whole movie was like a trip down memory lane for me.

Especially my favorite boy band, NSYNC.

Borderlands has a 0% on RT with 24 critic reviews. Can it really be that bad? They seem like they put a **** ton of money in it with the casting.

Insane how many "higher brow" (for lack of better term, just higher than teen/jump scare genre) horror movies have come out the past few months. I cant remember this many horror movies getting critical acclaim in the middle of the year ever.

Has anyone seen Oddity or Starve Acre?

Hadn't even heard of Starve Acre but I'm going to look it up now.
Oddity didn't interest me.

Watched the trailer for starve acre and it didn't reveal much. Maybe that's intentional but because of that, the trailer didn't really make me want to watch it. Kinda interested just because of the mystery.

I think it's available for rent now, but the reason I was aware of it was mostly because it stars the uncle from House of The Dragon.

Only movie I've seen in the theaters in the last year is Deadpool and Wolverine. If you like the first two, then you will enjoy this bigger budget version with lots more cameos. The last movies I've streamed were Red, Red 2, and the 2nd Jack Reacher movie with Tom Cruise. I really enjoyed the Red movies. The Jack Reacher movies with Tom Cruise are so inferior to the cool streaming Reacher series that they are almost painful to watch and highly disappointing.

I have read like 25 or something Jack Reacher books. It pissed me off seeing tom cruise play him. The tv show dude is much better.

I'm almost done with the third and final season of Mayor of Kingstown

I like it a lot. Didn't get very good reviews though.

Starve Acre gets a 5.3 on IMDB, a far more accurate site to base how good a movie is as compared to RT imo. And 5.3 is incredibly low.

Similarly, Longlegs gets an 85% on RT by critics and the movie devolves into laughably bad territory by the end. It’s all style, no substance, or intelligent script, or great acting. I imagine, in the pathetic times we live, that many critics as they always have, are wined and dined and essentially bought off to give a film a tomato. Or in this dumbed down world we now live in, that some of these “critics” don’t have a clue as to what’s good and what’s bad when it comes to film. God, how I long for the days of Roger Ebert.

I agree he fits the character description better, but wow is he a terrible actor. Was almost painful to watch for me. I wish they could do the books justice on film.

Deadpool and Wolverine is basically a bloody (very bloody) "buddy cop" movie kind of thing. I liked it as much as the 2nd, not as much as the first. They gloss over a lot of crap they retconned using multiverse as an excuse basically, but it is still fun and entertaining and Ryan Reynolds was simply born to play Deadpool, as Jackman was born to play Wolverine. But I am really getting tired of the multiverse retconning everything. They can just go to another universe and find a new iron man, and POOF RDJ gets to come back in his beloved role, instead of trying to pull off an entirely different character in the same "universe". The biggest flaw in all this is that the actions have no consequences, thus no stakes, thus no emotional weight. It is a fun romp, I enjoyed it and will watch it again on streaming, but it failed to reach the heights of the first one where real consequences added weight and got us to care a lot more about the characters. In this one it is just a bunch of beloved characters flashing by and making us go "oh hey, it's that guy!" a lot.
