Just saw "Silver Linings Playbook" - if you haven't seen it, you've gotto GO GET IT!!!!
Simply Brilliant!!!
Ok took the boy to see the Conjuring. I went in not really knowing what to expect, other than it was another haunting movie. I was actually pleasantly surprised. It was good old fashioned creepy and scary. They didn't rely on special effects and blood to shock you, instead excellent use of music and silence and showing normal everyday occurrences that might or might not end up scaring the **** out of you. The best thing was they underdid the whole shocker moments, making each one more intense. Every time I thought "oh yeah here it comes", well it didn't. Then at just the right moment it did. Had several jump out of your seat moments. You know it is working well when you can hear all the nervous laughter from the 40-something guys in the audience as they try to trick themsleves into thinking they aren't really scared, when really they just want to pee their pants. I heartily recommend it.
I also couldn't really see why it got an R rating. No swearing at all, I mean one G-D in the whole movie, 0 F-bombs. No sex or revealing situations. Definitely some disturbing moments, but nothing like saw or hostel or any of the gross out horror movies. I guess it was just plain scary enough to warrant it, and that it was. In fact some of the scariest moment were when the characters could see the bad guy, and they didn't let you see it. If you have seen it, the slamming of the door in the girl's bedroom knocked me out of my chair. that was great.
If you let yourself get into the movie it will make you want to run out of the theater, then run right back in to see what happens next. Very well done.
I really want to see this movie, but since I won't be able to talk Mrs. Trout into going, and I'm sure as **** not going alone, I probably never will. You see, we made the mistake of going out to see "The Grudge" and I literally had trouble sleeping for the next month or so. I was scared to sleep in my room -- with my wife in bed with me. Ya, ya, The Grudge wasn't even that scary, but it was bad enough for me.
I have no idea why I want to see this movie so bad. I really don't.
I think the conjuring was way better than the grudge. From a story and character viewpoint and from a scary *** movie viewpoint. But the good thing about it is that it is a fun scare in the theater that doesn't follow you home. Or does it?
I was supposed to see The Conjuring this afternoon but my babysitter's car broke down last night.
Despite the soft R I doubt my 8 year old son is ready for this stuff.
Watched the Conjuring last night. Crazy, non-stop suspense for most of the movie. Best horror flick, along with Sinister, that I've seen in years
Yeah, The Conjuring is a pretty good horror flick.
No idea how it got an R rating though.

When we sent it [to MPAA], they gave us the R-rating. When we asked them why, they basically said, ‘It’s just so scary. [There are] no specific scenes or tone you could take out to get it PG-13.
