What's the Next Move?

So who do we expect to land anyone in free agency? If so who? If not which contracts do we take on to fill out the roster?

Personally like the idea of signing vets on team friendly deals that will hopefully make them a good trade asset come next deadline day, guys like Seth Curry and Brook Lopez among others. Also like Grant Williams, outside of that there isn't much on the market. Don't want to overpay to land either Jerami Grant or Kuzma.

If we trade for a back contract such as Lowry or Hayward, whats the minimun return in asking price for taking them on. Personally I would take both of them if we can't land anyone decent in free agency.

Lowry-Ochai-Hayward-Lauri-Kessler

Good stealth tanking team for next season.

It is possible that Sexton and the Finnisher make it difficult for Danny's obvious blatant tank trade, we just witnessed, to have as much success as he hopes it will. But gm's can force the coach to use g leaguers and rest the others in the name of development to get bad fast. I think this ends up either being a massive joke of a trade, and the Jazz still make the play in even if they lose it they are late lottery, even without those traded away helping the win column, or they rest the Finnisher Kessler etc so much to get a top pick that they barely win 8 more games. Meanwhile the Wolves pick for us probably got worse by subtraction getting rid of Dlo but they also got better adding a much smarter floor general to feed the post that has been getting the shaft all season there.
I will just ask this. If Danny was blatantly tanking.. why did he keep both Lauri and JC.. our two main architects for the games we have won?

However I think the main point of the move wasnt to tank (that is debatable though). It was to add value using the pieces that were not part of the future..and to force Hardy to throw some guys into the fire more.

Beasley is out. 14 FGA and 25 MIN per game to better use. (Lauri? JC? Ochai?)

Vando is out. More minutes for Kessler.

Conley is out. More minutes + starter role to Sexton. Remove the safety net, time to grow up. Push Lauri to become the team leader by sending out the previous one.

Are all those not future-looking moves?

I still think Hardy is going to employ minute as a motivation tool. So Kessler still might have games where he is only getting 20 minutes because he isnt doing something Hardy wants of him, same with Sexton/Ochai.

As a rebuilding team why would you even consider trading away a 25 year old that's emerging as a potential superstar?

Don't think they wanted to trade JC just to trade him, would also imagine we didn't get any great offers because he can opt out at the end of the year.

This move was definitely made to tank the rest of the season, getting some value for our veterans that weren't in our long term plans and freeing up minutes for the young guys are just bonuses.

Here's another thing: IF Sexton is actually good, this trade shouldnt make us that much worse.

Still think you had to deal Clarkson to truly be bad enough to get past the Indys/Orlandos.

So on one hand I hope Sexton fails so the team can lose more, but I also hope he is good enough to elevate the team and have actual value as a starting PG.

Well at this point the next move will have to be to watch the buyout market and see if anything cuts that could be useful.

After that I see some 10-day contracts coming the Jazz way.

I am really curious as to what the Jazz will do with Clarkson. Do they meet his money demands? Can they work a sign and trade? Or are they just going to let him walk?

KO is next up. Honestly, I do not see the Jazz picking up his contract next summer. Only taking a 3 million hit.

If the Jazz does not sign Clarkson (I do not think they should) and do not pick up KO they will be looking at $40 million in cap space. (Assuming THT, Gay and Jones pick up their options)

Here are some free agents that come close to our time line (Not a lot there)

Last night was a good start for Sexton as the starting PG

Ehh, he certainly played well and I'm not going to bag on him, but the entire game was a blowout and he put up stats in a blowout.

Hopefully games are actually close and we can see Sexton truly make winning plays and make others better. I'm doubtful that's a thing he can do consistently, but the way some people here speak of him, he should be capable of that.
