The mythical "swing" voters. Those who see enough of Trump's crap to not want to vote for him directly, but are not full-on progressive enough to embrace a woman or LGBTQ, or hell even a mormon candidate. I have several in my extended family who fit this bill. Discussions are usually along the lines that women are not prepared to be the president (usually meaning too emotional or not logical enough, or too soft, or too hysterical, or not strong enough to make the tough choices, whatever slur you want to think of fits here), and gay people don't represent the population (read: "gay people don't represent me" or simply "no way I am voting for a gay person"). Many of them in our family and acquaintance groups are mormon, so they have a strong patriarchal and anti-gay bent to begin with. Most also do not want a minority to be president again. Many voted for Trump the first time, so it isn't a huge stretch for them to vote Trump again. Or at least switch from a dem vote to an independent, which is as good as a vote for Trump at this point I believe those who follow this sort of thing tightly believe it is a fairly sizable chunk of the population, enough to likely swing a very close vote between Biden and Trump at this point, or at least enough to take votes away from Biden and to an independent to split the vote and let Trump win anyway. I think one nail in the coffin for Biden was the debate. Now Trump gets a sliver of that group in the sympathy vote from the assassination attempt. It's a complex landscape to be certain.
