Why Can't Gordon Hayward Rebound?

Yes we should blame other players on what Hayward is not doing well. It is their fault he sucks. If we could have a team of 12 Gordons we would be the greatest team to go down in history. He does everything perfect. Even when he performs horribly in certain areas, there is someone else to point the finger at. Dont you dare say another obvious negetive statement about our little Hayward. He is a Golden Child! You got that? GOLDEN CHILD. That means something. It means he is a child made out of gold! I will not sit hear and listen to this until we put a statue of him at ES arena. Let's not even put it outside, let's drop a statue of Hayward right at the center of the court. His actual height is between 6"1 and 6"11 but he is a giant as far as I'm concerned. A giant! 9 ft 36 inch golden boy who is perfect!

Calm your *** down son!

Gordon Hayward looks like he shies from contact. He does not appear to really commit himself to jumping and fighting for a rebound.

....exactly right! As frail as he looks, he's probably wise to protect himself and not play with reckless abandon...end up breaking a bone and not helping the team at all! Personally, I never went very hard for offensive rebounds when I played. Too risky...too dangerous! We spent more time working to get a good high percentage shot....so we wouldn't need an offensive rebound!!!

Never went hard for a rebound. You would of never played on my team sir. Coach would have you kicked off the team. You go hard everytime your on the court or you go home. Hayward is justa bum and you guys need to realize it

.....I went hard for rebounds, just not offensive ones! I was excellent at blocking my man off the boards and getting the defensive rebound. But going for offensive rebounds can cost you fouls and put you out of position for the oppossing teams fast break. Oh, and besides....I wouldn't want to be a part of your hip-hop team anyway!!!

Hayward had at least 3 offensive rebounds by going into traffic and tipping the ball out to the perimeter. That is what I like to see. Someone might say "Oh, what does averaging 1-2 more rebounds per game really mean?". It means two extra possessions which make a world of difference if the final score is a differential of one.

Who cares about rebounds? It's one of the more overrated individual stats. All I care about is that the Jazz as a team do a better job rebounding than the other team. If everyone boxes out and keeps their man off the boards, it's wholly irrelevant which one of our players gets it. Hell, how many times a good box out leads to the other team committing a loose ball foul or tipping the ball out of bounds? No one gets a rebound, but who cares? The Jazz got the ball.

The actual rebound is simply a small, individual final step in what is a team act of making a stop and getting the ball.

That is all well and good in a idealistic world where the big men box out religiously and never miss an assignment. However, in the Utah Jazz world, our starting big men aren't very good at boxing out. Our SF needs to give them some support on the boards for the betterment of the team.

Any big that doesn't box out should have their *** sat.

My rule is you always go in hard, no exceptions. Been doing that my whole life and I haven't had any complaints. Only thing that's going to stop me is old age. But the little blue pill may, ummm, extend my effective years as a playa.

You're missing my point completely. Giving support on the board and helping out with rebounding does NOT mean that you actually have to get rebounds. Once again, it's a team thing. If Hayward needs to contribute more in that sense, then he should do it by keeping his man off the boards. If our bigs are not boxing out their guys, then having Hayward barge into the paint to try and get rebounds won't do much at all.

If one player consistently fails to box out his man, the whole system fails. You can't fix it through the other four. You fix it through the guy who is the problem. And I really don't think Hayward is the problem right now.

Also, why doesn't Hayward take wide open layups/reverse layups/shots in the paint? Instead passing the ball out to our poor 3 point shooting troupe of wings?

In Gordo's defense, his assists and rebounds are both up this season. Maybe his shooting slump is causing him to pass up some open looks.

I think Hayward is coming along just fine.
It may be that he has to adjust his shot a bit, since he obviously put some muscle on during the summer.
I remember when I was really pushing weights at about his age, I also had a hard time with my shot for awhile.

That 10% drop from 10% can be killer for an extended period of time.

I remember when my shooting percentage dropped from 82% to 75%. Wow was that a rough game.
