Why Dennis Lindsey is a genius...

I know the vast majority of you are pretty mad about the deal we just made with the Warriors but it was an absolute genius move by our front office and I'll explain why. We acquired a first round pick in 2014 and 2017, a solid wing in Brandon Rush, and $20 million dollars in expiring contracts.

Next summer with guys like LeBron, Bosh, and Carmelo among others potentially hitting the free agent market teams will be desperate to acquire the cap space necessary to pursue them. We'll have three nice expiring contracts to deal at the trade deadline to acquire young players and draft picks. It happens every year, teams give up valuable assets for players with expiring deals at the trade deadline to free up cap space in the summer and it will happen again this year. We acquired five solid assets today for absolutely nothing. This was not a move that is going to make us immediately better but it will help us in the future.

We'll have at least two first round draft picks next year, one which will likely be a lottery pick in the most stacked draft class since 2003. Not to mention we will probably acquire at least one more pick at the deadline for one of our expiring contracts.

Lindsey is a genius and is doing an excellent job of building our team to make noise in the playoffs within a couple of years. Not to mention this move frees up a ton of minutes for Kanter and Favors and will allow them to start next to each other.

I love what Lindsey is doing in Utah and I'm sure all of you will love his plan when it starts to come together.

Fair points. So if this is accurate, why didn't we trade Jefferson's and Millsap's expiring contracts this year?

Very different situation. Jefferson and Millsap are both in their primes and we were in the thick of the playoff picture. Jefferson and Biedrins will both be role players if that for us next season.

I honestly have a feeling that we're going to tank next season in hopes of landing Jabari Parker, the mormon superstar.

umm... weak draft class.. we were better off keeping the cap space ourselves.

Umm.... there is no assurance that having cap space with a slightly better draft means you have a different outcome. Cap space is nice to have, but not a sure thing. I don't actually have any issues with the cap space, it's the taking back garbage players when you could have taken at least one good player that annoys me.

Even if we miss out on LeBron (Wiggins), we can still end up with a Carmelo (Parker), Wade (Exum), or Bosh (Randle), or even one of the Harrison brothers.

I was in shock initially, now I have come to accept this, now I am starting to love it. I took all of 5 minutes to achieve this transformation.

I am thrilled with this trade! It is absolutely fantastic and exactly the direction we have all been talking about for months!

People will be surprised with how good Jabari Parker is, he's going to push Wiggins for the number one pick. I honestly think he's coming to Utah, it makes too much sense. We've need a superstar that embraces being a member of the Jazz since Stockton and Malone and Parker is perfect for that. Not only would he be a star on the court in SLC but he'd be a star off the court as well because he's a devote Mormon.

After hearing all of the details of the trade, I feel a lot better about it. We didn't lose anything really, and we got a lot of assets plus enough salary to cover the floor I believe and knowing we are renouncing rights to Paul, I think it's clear the youngsters will all be starting. I'm excited to see what happens.

Well, obviously the couldn't have, or they would. It's not like GS was like, "Here, take Barnes" and we were like, "Nah, we just lost one Jefferson and need another."

Granted, Jefferson and Biedrens is a lot a garbage to eat but Jazz buy low on one of the best pure shooters in the NBA. Rush is plenty young enough to come back strong from his injury and The Jazz will end up with a better shooter than Foye, a better shooter than Redick, just as good as Korver and several years younger and more athletic.

The picks are what they are - assets to trade for something else. It's way to early to start worrying about draft positions now.

Barnes of course was a pipe dream. No way GSW would have given him up.
