"Why Gordon Hayward Should Stay with The Utah Jazz" by David Locke

I dislike contributing to "Hayward will stay/leave threads" because I find the arguments pro or con to be inane. At this point, I don't think even Hayward knows where he will end up, because he has yet to see any offers.

My own personal opinion -- which is worth no more than the change you could find in my sofa -- is that Hayward is predisposed to remain with the Jazz, provided we offer him the best package he can get. Note that he schedules a meeting with Jazz management on July 3rd, two days after he receives offers from every team interested in him. I suspect the timing of the meeting is to give DL an opportunity to "revise" the Jazz offer to include whatever creative incentives other GM's included as sweeteners. But then, I'm only guessing.

Thus I make my own inane contribution to the discussion. (I should have resisted the temptation and just gone to bed.)

Ummmm we will offer him everything we can... regardless of what others offer. The CBA won't let us get anymore creative.

The points he makes are fine. The tone has an annoying soaring quality; there's the repetition that apparently supposed to give gooseflesh. Bleh.

Second place in the East just means you are approx. 5th best team in the NBA.
No. Boston's 17-13 record vs West teams equates to a 29-23 western conference record which is tied for 6th with OKC. Being in an easy conference really helped their record.

Sounds like David Locke to me.

I'm sometimes so starved to hear about the Jazz and the national outlets aren't gonna help me out. So I listen to his podcast, he loves his work, so good for him. But the dude is corny/cringey as hell.

He tweeted about this article 3 times in the span of five minutes

He's not a great writer... the points are valid. He loves gordon... always has. If Gordon became Lebron he'd be his windhorst.

Sign and trade wont work if the team is over the cap right? Thats why the Kyrie/Hill rumor was debunked.

The team has to be under the apron after the S&T is completed. So yeah, they couldn't do one as is, but if they really wanted to, I think they could clear enough cap for a S&T. I wouldn't swear on it though.

It was good... why u no like

Bubble gum with extra cheese ain't my favorite combo.

Plus, this is Rudy's ****ing team. He just let's Gordon think it's his, cuz that's how Rudy rolls.

Also, I like to flip **** in Dave's direction just cuz. I do appreciate the fact that he's more of a superfan than a legitimate sports journalist, even though I like to criticize.

Rudy is peanut butter gordo is jelly... Ingles and Jesus are the bread. Rodney Hood is the milk... because if you leave it out too long it goes sour. George Hill is nacho cheese Doritos.

Together they are my favorite lunch... who's hungry.

As long as conferences are a thing, being 2nd best team in a conference matters much more than where you are in the entire league.

Being the next team up puts you in a position to capitalize on injury or a team disbanding (a very real possibility for Cleveland)

What I absolutely HATE about this argument when I hear it from other people is that relies so much on assumption. People just assume in arguing this that the Jazz are just stuck behind the Warriors, Spurs and Rockets forever. Like it's a static league that never changes. Why couldn't the Jazz be 2 in the West next year? Or in the future? On the flip side they are assuming no other team in the East improves. That it's always going to be Cleveland and Boston forever. It amazes me that people think like this when the NBA is changing all the time.

Any future Celtics success is based on players not currently on the roster. Except for maybe someone like Jaylen Brown.

It's a bunch of good contracts (expiring soon) decent players, one dude going crazy and having an awesome season overachieving in a crap conference. If the Bulls beat the Celtics is the even a conversation?

Maxing IT would be the dumbest move ever, so he's gone.

All the Celtics have from a "we can win a title' standpoint is draft picks and potential trades for good players.

Current Jazz roster is better and built more for the future than the Celtics. We don't have a million draft picks, that's the only difference.

count me in with the whole the Celtics are better being rubbish. Listened to a Celtics pod yesterday, and the dudes whole pitch was "come to Boston, it's easier" and really feel that Boston is a superior team. I would hope that someone who is competitive would think "ok, give me a really good team and lets go after these big teams" Surely a competitor would want to go against high quality more often as long as they have a chance to be competitive than play somewhere because it's soft and easy.

i am so hoping the Celtics keep deferring and collecting picks and being too stingy to give up anything, and then Philly leapfrogs them within a year or two.

They were one rondo injury away from being ousted in the first round... whereas our best players missed playoff games against a team with "stars" and we pulled out a game 7 on the damn road. We made a former contender break up their core.

We would have murdered the wizards... they ain't better. If they make the finals they are the Kidd Nets of the early 2000s.

They won't get George unless they rape Indy... won't give up the prize "assets" because what Ainge won't tell you is he's building a 50ish win team until he can develop the lotto guys in 4 or 5 years. Once Gordo isn't a shiny nice toy they move him for more assets.

Okay maybe I'm exaggerating I'm just ready for Gordon to come back and give Jazz fans a big hug and reassure us that he only thought of us the whole time.

Then why were there rumours about him joining BOS even before BOS was the 2nd best team?

Boston Media, and hell, even allegedly Ainge himself, have asserted themselves into any and all possible marquee players on the go this offseason. I'll be particularly pleased if some team manages to fleece them of some of their assets and they end up signing Aaron Afflalo or Rudy Gay or some bozo like that

.

And yet, they traded the #1 overall pick replacement for IT. Maxing IT would be dumb, but so would trading the #1 pick if you're not planning on keeping IT. He ain't going nowhere, and unless Tatum turns into a superstar, that move is going to look terrible regardless of what Ainge does.

I hope they keep all their draft picks and don't hit on any of them. It's quite possible. Also, don't forget about the Bucks. I'd love to see a Bucks/Philly dominance post LeBron.
