"Why Gordon Hayward Should Stay with The Utah Jazz" by David Locke

Haha, the last 10 posts in this thread:

Even if Boston trade for George. There is no guarantee that he will resign and stay for the next three seasons. There is no guarantee on Bradley and Thomas either. Rudy, on the other hand, will be here for the next four seasons.

I consider gobert to be an all star quality player.

I also understand that when someone uses the word "resign" when talking a lot the jazz that they meant to use re-sign.

The only thing that should be frustrating about this situation is how well positioned Boston is due to their own shrewd maneuvering. Props to Danny Ainge for putting them in the position.

Negative props to Dennis Lindsey for telling Hayward to go out and get his own deal 4 years ago thus building in an opt-out at this point in history. If they'd just locked Gordo up like they should have done and given him what he wanted when it was extension time they could have structured a deal more beneficial to the Jazz.

I'm flabbergasted that this aspect doesn't get more attention. Dennis Lindsey basically sent Hayward out to talk to 29 competitors to negotiate his contract. No **** it was gonna come back with something that doesn't exactly help the Jazz. Like why would you let Michael Jordan and the Whorenets negotiate a deal with your most important asset for you to then sign off on. Come on.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
A. Did danny ainge use hood shrewd maneuvering to win the lottery? Did his shrewd maneuvering cause the nets to always make bad moves and cause injuries to guys?
B. Let's say DL would have just gave hayward the max deal with no opt out ahead of time so charlotte couldn't offer him. Isn't it possible that Hayward leaves next year to go play with Paul george (and maybe even lebron) in LA? Or let's say he stays with Utah in that scenario but gets the mega max and we have to pay him lots more than we will have to when he re signs with us this summer.

Food for thought.

DL failed to assess the market properly that summer and it cost us... to be fair though I think I was one of the few that was bare knuckle fighting everyone on the forum when we matched... people talked about him being the next AK and how is this guy MAX player... he's not LeBron... etc. etc. it was not obvious I guess.

My how times have changed.

DL failed to assess the market properly that summer.

I agree but it might end up being beneficial in the end through pure luck.

If he had assessed the market properly then we might be losing him next summer or paying him a lot more next summer instead of locking him up for 5 more years at a lower cost this summer.

According to Locke he's heard earlier Blake Griffin had interest in coming to Utah before CP3 bolted(having hard time believing it, but oh well). If this is true and I'm the Jazz I'd be sending Jingles and Rudy to LA to court him and make him request a S&T with the Jazz.

UTA gets Blake Griffin (S&T)
LAC gets Derrick Favors, Alec Burks, first round pick

Magic - I've been saying that all along.

Another fail by Lindsey.

These worship him so much they ignore facts that don't fit their fantasy.

Your argument weakens if Hayward re-signs with Jazz. Nothing has been decided yet.

I enjoyed the read and especially the Locke-specific insights thanks to his role. The piece could have benefited from a proofread, though.
