Why not Twitter Fes?

I'm not much for Twitter, but a lot of guys on here are, so why not Twitter Fes to find out what's going on with him and his agent? I know he uses it.

Fes doesn't use twitter. There have been twitter impersonators that I've helped quash but no real twitter accounts by Fes. What is it you want to know? He has until October 1st to sign the offer sheet. Because of that and nothing offered by the Jazz over the minimum, there isn't a whole lot of motivation to sign any earlier especially when you have a team like Houston, who may yet make an offer. They flew him to Houston to meet with him for 2 days and they liked what they saw, but they are waiting for Dampier to commit elsewhere before making Fes an offer.

Portland might be in the sweepstakes also. I read that Greg Oden isn't good to go yet and Pryzbilla is still recovering from his two knee injuries and Portland may need a big for awhile.

Hopefully, Portland has no more than the biannual exception or vet minimum to offer. If so we would probably keep him.

One clarification on the "minimum" referred to here. The Jazz have offered the lowest amount they can offer to retain rights of first refusal, which is $1,087,500. That is not the same as the minimum salary for a three-year veteran, which would be $885,120.

But go4jazz is right. Fes isn't highly motivated to sign right now, so he should wait a few days. I'd hate to take a job for $109K (putting it in numbers that are closer to "real people" salary ranges) and find out that another company was about to offer me $200K. Or if you prefer, $10.90 per hour and $20.00 per hour.

I also think the Jazz' frustration with the process is likely overblown. Fes is working the process, and they know that. It's not like Fes or his agent is negotiating in the media. When KOC said the Jazz had an "issue," many interpreted that as "a young punk trying to extort money from us." It could have also meant "an unfinished item of business." I have a hard time thinking these negotiations are that acrimonious.

Dan Fegan was Satan to the Jazz back in the late '90's. I don't follow who represents who anymore, but when I saw that Fegan (and his associates) represents Fes, I had to wonder if there were lingering feelings even though that Larry is gone.

I wondered the same thing, but it would be pretty fundamentally unfair to hold Howard Eisley against Fesenko. How old was Fes when that went down? 12? He was probably only 6'9" back then.

Yeah, the Fegan connection could be having an impact. His MO has always been to ask for ridiculous offers and try to hold the teams hostage, refusing to compromise in negotiations. He may be doing that this time, but if so, it's laughable, because the hold all the cards.

If Fes ends up signing the QO and becomes unrestricted next summer, THAT is when Fegan will try to screw the Jazz (based on history). He will demand a huge offer and refuse to compromise. He will be more in control then, because Fes will be unrestricted. Sometimes he is able to find a better offer for his clients (it seems like it worked for Howard Eisley and Shandon Anderson), sometimes he can't (I remember it backfiring one time but can't recall who - I don't think it was someone on the Jazz).

The Shadow of Shandon Anderson is likely hanging over Fesenko. If Fes averaged 18 and 10, the Jazz would probably get over it.

I remember reading a story where Ostertag saw Scott Padgett at media day one season and joked that Padgett shouldn't get too comfortable because all of Fegan's guys were being shipped out. In the years since, I believe the Jazz have only had Humphries and Fesenko as Fegan clients. I'm probably wrong.

I think as far as Sloan is concerned as long as he is there for day 1 of training camp and in shape he is not going to worry about the contract negotiations. I believe Fes is in SLC and working out according to our Fes "insider" so he should be ready to go.
