Why settle? Tonight’s draft-buy picks/move up

Hopefully, we can get in on 1 pick at 33, 34 or 35 tonight. But I highly doubt the 7ers trade theirs though cuz that sure is a sweet spot. If they wanted to, they can use that to move into the 1st rd.

Waiting to get a pick to grab a guy you hope drops is a gamble because the teams with 2nd picks might like a player still there. I say try to get Philly to sell one of their 2nd round picks. Atlanta is down to one second round pick now. Sacramento has 3 they could be a prime candidate but DL hates Vlade so maybe they cannot make a deal.

Paschall, Samanic, Kabengele, Edwards, Windler, Okpala, even Bazley.

I’d be stoked if one fell and we snagged one of them.
Started today just a little bummed because the draft won't be as exciting without a first rounder.

Now I will spend my entire day on twitter hoping the Jazz can pull this off. If they get Conley + one of Paschall, Windler, Edwards, etc I won't sleep until October.

I think all along the Jazz have been planning to move their first-round pick to Memphis and trade up in the second round. I'm assuming they've got at least two scenarios worked out based on who is available where. They were scouting the second round as much or more than the first. Jazz will offer Bradley, a future 2nd, and/or cash to move up. See if we get one of Philly's picks at 33 or 34, or maybe Atlanta's other pick at 35.

Another possibility is Brooklyn. They've been cutting guys to clear cap space, and might not want two rookie contracts. They have 27 and 31. They could stash Samanic and trade their other pick.

Targets: Dylan Windler, Eric Paschall, Terence Williams, Bruno Fernando, Daniel Gafford, Luka Samanic, Louis King, Iggy Brazdeikis, Dylan Cheatham, Quindary Weatherspoon, Jordan Bone

Sleepers: Jalen Leque, Darius Bazley, Talen Horton-Tucker, Jaylen Hands

That's at least 12 guys worth drafting, imo.

33, 34, 35, and I would say that throwing $5m out there to Charlotte or Phoenix may land you the 32 or 36... both owners like the $$$ and Hornets may need some dough to keep Kemba around.

Just mentioned that Brooklyn has been clearing space for free agency and might not want two rookie contracts. They have 27 and 31. They're still the front-runner for Kyrie, and they're in play for KD as well. KD is discussing sign-and-trade scenarios with Golden State. It sounds like he's leaving to go to one of the NY teams.

Without Crowder Paschall would have an immediate path to playing time if we got him and keep Favs instead of getting a stretch option.

We could trade Neto to Phoenix for 32 too... cheap option to help with pg issues there. That would make a lot of sense given that we need to clear a little room for the Conley deal.

If you listen to his interview, he is such an obvious Jazz guy it's a bit gross. That said, I think the Jazz want Windler, King or Brazdeikis. I think they want a long shooting wing from that big workout they had over Memorial Weekend.

The guy they draft is going to have to play some minutes this year. The best way for him to get on the floor is to knock down spot-ups, like Hayward did as a rookie.

The other scenario would be to draft a back-up big like Bruno or Gafford if the Jazz are going to trade Favors.

Another note, a couple days after Iggy Brazdeikis worked out for the Jazz on May 23, he affirmed that he was staying in the draft. It's likely that the Jazz gave him positive feedback from his workout. The Jazz also have a close relationship with Jim Beilein. He's probably not the Jazz's first choice, but I could sure see the Jazz drafting him. He's got good size, athleticism, plays hard, can knock down shots.

It's possible we would also take a smallish contract back. That would help Charlotte, though I don't know who it would be.

Neto's an upcoming FA. Can't do that one.

Incorrect... he has an non-guaranteed contract of 2.1M for next year. They likely have an exception to take it into... he counts as zero outgoing salary for us. Charlotte would also be a good option as Parker just bailed and they need small cost contributors in the worst way.

I don’t see us taking on money... I think they want to keep Favs and the cap space is too tight to do it with the Conley deal. If we did it means Favs is out.

We need to fill the roster.

Our 2021 2nd (top 45 protected) and $2 million to get into the 30's

$2 million to get into the mid-40's

Target Admiral, Paschall, Carsen, Williams, Samanic, Davis, Bone, Bazley, etc.

So far, we only have these guys under contract:
Donovan
Gobert
Conley
Ingles
Favors (probably)
O'Neale
Exum
Niang
Bradley
That's only 9 of 15 roster spots. If 2 of those 3 2nd rounders pan out for a roster spot after camp, awesome. We aren't even close to the luxury this year. We need youth to groom. Spend the money DL.
