What's new

why so many of you giving up on Burke? He is our future PG, period!

a short unathletic point guard played for the jazz a while ago. jazz let him go after 20 years. gary payton loved him. anyone knows who that is?

Stockton wasn't athletic?

What about his vision and shooting ability?

I'm just not seeing the comparisons to Stockton. Burke has more in common with Jacque Vaughn than Stockton.

I don't consider vision and shooting ability as athleticism. We all know his vision and shooting were outstanding. I am just trying to say it's too early to give up on burke.

Why is trading the guy giving up on him? If you can get a better player, then you just move on.

Burke isn't Kyrie Irving. He isn't not a great offensive player and he is a below-average defender. I hope he has a some serious competition for the PG spot this year. He needs to produce or be moved.

You don't want him to be Irving he's a ball hog. Of course Burke isn't a "great" offensive players how many rookies are? Especially when that rookie played out of position the majority of the season.

What makes you question Burke's vision it was his strength leaving college and I saw nothing that said it wasn't already in the top 10-15 of all the PG's in the league.

Burke is alright, but he will always be someone you are semi-actively looking for an upgrade over.

Agree. He might be the type of guy who plays for a long time, but bounces around from team to team as part of trades, or just replaced as teams draft/acquire upgrades.

I think we should put this another way..

Why are we giving up on Burke after just one year?

If Kanter gets a pass for 3 years, and CJ Miles got what.. 5 years? Seems like Burke deserves a little longer to simmer. Jury's still out.

Or maybe we are just getting smarter.

I, as an expert on the internet(citizen of the internet since late 1996), can report that under no circumstances will the population of forums become smarter over time.

That's just not how the internet works.

Burke is not going to get taller, nor will he get any faster. Bigs take longer to develop their games, especially those who didn't play college and got parked on the bench their first couple of seasons. I'm not "giving up" on Trey; I'm just saying he's always going to be in the 15-20 range of PG's. Is that good enough? For now, ok. Once the team takes another step up? Then I think the Jazz will need to upgrade the 1.

Agreed. Looked to me like he was not quick enough to get into the lane, meaning he will never be much of a threat on offense. With his size, he will always have trouble on D. Looks like a middle of the road guy at best.

You think he'll always been in the 15-20 range after a season of him playing out of position, injured, and as a rookie. How about you wait until he's not dealing with all 3 before you make concrete decision about a player.

But you can see what his physical attributes are. They are not gonna change. He will always be small and not quick enough to make up for that deficiency is the way it looks. Maybe I missed it but it looked to me like he could not get around guys and get into the lane. Not good.

they are equivalent

burke got 2,262 Minutes in his 1st season

Kanter got 1,952 Minutes in his first 2 seasons combined.

It took CJ Miles 4 seasons to reach the 2,000 minute mark.

There's always an excuse you can find when you want to root for someone.

And we're gonna ignore the tape watching, time spent with an actual coach developing, and practicing with players at a higher level than college as something that doesn't matter at all?
