She denied that being the case:

Locke said this morning there are no negotiation time tables in Europe. Barcelona offered him 3 million euros now with Utah unable to counter until free agency opens. Tomic would have had to pass on a big pay day for the uncertainty NBA free agency.

He's 7'2" and a former Euroleague MVP, no? There's no uncertainty there. I don't know how that all works, but if it's like you said, sounds like a rule that needs to be changed if a team that has rights to a foriegn player can't counter offer a non-NBA team outside of the normal free agency window.

Yeah it sure put the Jazz in a pickle if true.

Don't believe it for a second

She even said in one of her other replies "Im more of a NYC person" (or something along those lines). The girl is a fashion blogger. Of course she isn't going to like a smaller conservative city like SLC.

We can still buy him out of his contract.

My faith will not waiver #prayforTomic

Why Tomic=Kanter

Neither will be playing for Utah next year.

Fire up the big foot machine...https://www.sportando.com/m/en/europe/spain/162717/ante-tomic-sometimes-i-can-picture-myself-playing-in-the-nba-other-times-i-don-t.html

I feel like this ahole is just using us to settle his contract disputes. I've decided I hate him.

A.) He already has his contract from Barcelona that was significantly higher than what they said they'd pay. It doesn't keep him from considering an offer from the Jazz, it just sets the floor.

B.) He couldn't communicate with the Jazz until July, so his option was to take the deal or wait until July and see if a better offer could be had from either team. Not a sure bet that something couldn't dramatically change between now and then.

C.) He had significant leverage, and there's an NBA buyout in the new contract (although how much is unknown).

D) Most of us would have taken the offer from Barcelona instead of hoping that things went well this summer.

E.) The Jazz stopped talking publicly about if after he signed the contract, but there seemed to be considerable interest on their part. Depending on the specifics of the buyout, there's no reason to assume that interest has changed.

F.) If Utah wants to bring him over, they have the resources to pay off the buyout and make a very competitive offer. Depending on how the draft goes, I think there's still a slight chance that they may go that route.

G.) Tomic used the leverage that he had to get a good extension from Barcelona, but there's also nothing stopping him from meeting with the Jazz this summer and deciding to come over if they want him badly enough. As I see it, all he's done so far is made sure that both teams can't lowball him. He got the best deal that he could from Barca, and if the Jazz offer him something significantly better, I think he'll consider it.

I get why fans have fatigue over Tomic, but the Jazz spurned him first. After testing their interest in 2012, he signed with Barcelona and developed exactly how we'd hoped he would. The fact that he has options doesn't make him a bad guy. The buyout has been (and always will be) the key factor. I'm not expecting him to come over, but I haven't completely ruled it out. He took the best deal on the table, but still has the potential to upgrade. Pretty sure I'd have done the exact same thing.

Christmas morning for me today tbh.

I posted on the other thread some relevant info. It seems Tomic hasn't signed the extension with Barcelona yet (as reported by Gigantes two days ago).

So the buyout is not relevant. I think his contract expires in July so that's why he says he has time to decide.

Tomic would get like 15 mpg on this team, nothing to get your hopes up over.
Assuming no injuries, which is rarely the case. He'd probably get closer to 20 and Gobert could be kept fresher by limiting Rudy to about 30/per, especially on back-to-backs.

I agree with Dala...Tomic would be a perfect fit as our backup 5. And if he exceeds expectations and wants more PT? Then he's a very valuable trade asset.

Take the 19-10 post-break Jazz. Add Tomic, Burks, the #12 pick and then factor in just the internal improvements from Exum and Gobert alone. I don't care how tough the WC is; that's a team that challenges for home court.

I don't drink but I'd definitely consider sparkling cider if Tomic signed with Utah. Auto correct keeps wanting to change to atomic. Maybe his nickname can be "Atomic Dog."
