With the 23rd Pick... Rodney Hood

Hood's release point and elevation on his jumper are ridiculous. Almost an uncontestable shot for similar sized players when he comes off a pick.

Hood is what we always wanted CJ Miles to be. Consistent jump shot, without the chucker mentality.

Possibly, my only knock on Hood is his fluidity in attacking the rim. Other than that, he was one of the most complete offensive players in the draft. If given apt playing time, I could easily see him having a better rookie year than Exum, given Exum's youth and lack of recent competitive play.

Yep. No knock on Exum, but i'd be surprised if Hood didn't have the better rookie season. I expect Hood to be better in summer league too.

Hood should have a better rookie season. I'm not expecting much out of Exum this year, and most shouldn't expect much...he's very raw and young.

from Pre-Draft article listing Hood's strengths/weaknesses

Rodney Hood

• 2013-14 numbers: 16.1 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 32.9 mpg

• In college: Hood was option No. 2 behind Parker, but he frequently had the ball in critical end-of-game situations, including vs. Vermont, at Notre Dame, twice against Syracuse and vs. Clemson in the ACC tournament. He ended 22.5 percent of Duke’s possessions while on the floor, second highest on the team. Hood was Duke’s best defender, frequently tasked with guarding an opponent’s most effective scorer.

• Scouts love: Hood is projected as one of the best shooters in the draft. His left-handed stroke is quite efficient and he has good range. He can score off the dribble or spotting up. His height (6-foot-8) is a plus, too.

• Scouts loathe: Hood weighs just 215 pounds, and there are questions as to how strong he can become. Can he get to the basket against bigger and stronger NBA defenders? He’s also old for his class (21), leaving him less potential than some of his peers in the eyes of scouts.

• Best draft case: Hood is a lottery pick, fulfilling the draft potential those around Duke predicted for him one year ago.

• Worst draft case: late first round.

• Our take: Hood seems to have helped his stock during the post-combine workouts. Shooting always will be a coveted asset in the NBA, so look for him to come off the board somewhere in the 13-25 range.

Whoever wrote that Rodney Hood was Duke's best defender either never watched him play, or was making fun of how bad Duke was at defense. Only reason he guarded better players is because Parker was worse at defense.

Can he be a Robert Horry type player for us?

Hit clutch open shots? Absolutely. But he's a wing player. He should not be forced to guard power forwards...now offensively he has a decent post up game, but he is definitely a wing player in my opinion.

Old at 21? ha ha. The guy sat out a year when he transferred! McDermott is 22. Early is 23. What's that make them? Ancient? Seriously - just because guys come out at 19 doesn't make a 21-year-old old. Damn article writer!

They said he was old for his class…not just old. Big difference between the two.

Still that's wrong I think. He's a senior who turns 21 in October. Guys who turned 18 just before their Freshmen preseason started are pretty young for their age.
