What's new

With the 47th Pick, Kevin Murphy

Yeah when we were contenders with DWill on board. Now our co-captains are Jefferson/Millsap.

And the Jazz are setting their roster so they have clear books in 2013 to spend money. They are taking a contract for a year on a player who can improve the team now and isn't a long term commitment that will hurt flexibility in their biggest off-season.

3 way sending Lamar Odom back 2 Clips, Mo Williams to Utah & clearing cap room 4 Dallas is close to done, but nor yet official, per sources.

Hopefully we see more of the details on this tonight.

I'm not saying I don't want Mo Williams. All I'm saying is - if Greg is willing to sign off on paying $8.5m extra this year - may be there is something else we're getting back in addition to Williams.

That's all I'm saying, but we'll see soon enough.

Maybe. The Jazz are clearly not infatuated with getting draft picks like the rest of the board though. I'm sure they will take one if they can get one, but I don't think they cancel the deal if no one bites on it.

It helps us too. You can't be paranoid about making a deal just because it helps another team. I don't think the Jazz are looking to make any other deals in 2012. They want expirings and people that can help the team out.

Acquiring an extra expiring is not justification for giving up the TPE without getting anything back. More to the point, you NEVER rent your cap space for free. Getting an overpaid Mo means somebody should have paid us to take him, not fooled into thinking that painting the fence was in our best interest.

Dallas is supposedly trying to clear cap space now. Do they really want to keep that 24th pick (and guaranteed contract) they made? Seems like a perfect fit as compensation to the Jazz in the Williams deal.

Mo Williams isn't some throw away. He is a good productive player. Considering last year our big veteran acquisitions were Josh Howard and Jamall Tinsley, this is a huge upgrade going into the year. If our young guys develop, we may have a chance to get into the 2nd round and make some noise in the playoffs.

Well if KOC can pull this deal off it would effectively goes some ways in undoing his "biggest mistake".

I wonder if that is a contributing motivation for him in getting this deal done.

May he's looking to sign him up to a reasonable contract after next year?

Of course that is always an option. If he plays well we are probably looking at a MLE player, which is reasonable for a good 3pt shooting PG.

The whole thinking of "what Mo could mean to us" has to stop. That's not relevant to the deal. The only thing relevant is about equalizing value. The Clippers get Odom for Mo -- win. Dallas saves 3 million getting rid of Odom for free -- win. But they can't "win" if we don't use our TPE for Mo.

Our TPE is worth something. And it's not the sticker price on overpaid Mo. In this case, it's the price of facilitating the deal for our rivals. In other cases, it's absorbing somebody else's unwanted for another asset.

So if we don't get something, it's not worth it to give up our TPE for Mo.

Getting Odom is a win? You can't be serious? Sounds like a desperate attempt to add a player.

Dallas saves 3 million? Is that really enough for us to not do a deal? Because someone saves 3 million?

We add a good player for free, it's worth it.

That's what I was thinking too.

But I've come to realized that may be the price we pay is to get back KOC's pride for letting Mo go in 2004.
