Woj: Jazz finalizing contract with German center Tibor Pleiss

I'm confused now. 25k for a 2013 Nissan Sentra with 30k miles is bad value. It's worth probably about half of that.

He didn't specify the options, or if it's a hybrid. Books can be written about that analogy. A work of true genius! :D

I mean come on guys if we are seriously bitching over 3 mil a year to Pleiss there is something wrong with us. I mean we could have Kanter for 16 mil a year and worry about how we are going to keep the core together in a couple of years.

Even though we've had minimal action this offseason it still has been a very interesting one thus far.....delaying Lyles' signing, Bringing in Neto (hopefully they see something I don't cuz I'm not impressed at all (haven't seen THAT much of him) but I don't see him being better than Burke, or Cotton)and now the giant German....it would be nice if he turns into something decent and we're able to actually get something decent out of the Kunter deal

I see what you did there.

It blows my mind how most fans seriously think they know better than a front office who has a really good track record of evaluating talent and a coaching staff that is good at progressing talent.

Not sure if serious.. A little over 3 mil a year for a BIG in this league? Omer Asik is getting 12 mil a year, Robin Lopez is getting 13.5 mil a year, Alexis ****ing Ajinca is getting 5 mil a year for crying out loud.

Yes i'm absolutely serious. Those are PROVEN veterans so thats an absolutely horrible comparison. Tibor is an unproven 2nd round draft pick. For this being his ROOKIE deal its a lot. He was a backup last year, its not like he was this dominate European veteran. I'd love for someone to show me equivalent deal handed out to a rookie with a similar situation. European bigs who get decent size deals on their rookie deal are normally star players, not backups in Europe.

With that said i'm 100% fine with the deal and happy we did it. All I'm saying is this was by no means "cheap." I'm very excited to have him.

Not a single person is complaining about it.

No it's not. Not for a 2nd round rookie who's in his mid 20s. Not dying it's a bad deal but no way is it cheap. It's more then Ingles and ingles proved he belongs in the league already.

You seem to be that single person.

ALEXIS ****ING AJINCA who has been in the league for five years and has career averages of 5.1 ppg and 3.6 rpg is a proven veteran and is getting paid 5 mil a year? Pleiss could easily put that up in 15+ minutes of play.

I was under the impression that you thought bringing him in was the wrong move, sorry for the misconception even though my initial sentiment wasn't necessarily directed at you in the initial post anyways.

Its absolutely ridiculous to say Pleiss could easily do that when we know NOTHING about him in the context of the NBA. He didnt put up dominate numbers any point in his career and in much lessor leagues.

I'm also not saying he won't be GREAT and could be amazing for us. I'm just saying he is a complete unknown and i'm surprised he got a 3 year deal all things considered. I do not think its a bad deal, but I also no not think its a "cheap" deal either. I'm very happy and excited we have him.

Wrong. Saying a deal isn't cheap does not mean i'm complaining or think its a bad deal.

True. Methinks people are just surprised by the comment's lack of perspective of reality in the current market. People here seriously thought we could ink Kanter between 8-11 mil a year, but he's getting 70 in 4. This market is all new territory, and your comparuson of an older wing to a true 7'er who has two coveted skills (passing and shooting) just seemed off the mark.

Lol are you serious dude, Pleiss could EASILY put up 5 points and 3 rebounds in 15 minutes of play. Sig that.

I've been super excited about him since they day we got his rights. I've been a huge proponent of bringing him over since day one. The only thing remotely "negative" that i've said is that his deal isn't "cheap" in my opinion.

I think there is a high likelihood that he is pretty, meh, for us. He has the potential to do good but so far he's been very underwhelmping in his career.

I'm still wondering how 3 mil a year for Pleiss isn't cheap?

That's such a ignorant thing to say, especially with the cap going up so much next year.

Bigs are hard to come by.

Did you know I got an infraction for the K word, but then I also put a p in front of Enes.

You do realize that Tibor averaged roughly 5ppg and 4rpb in 15 minutes last year in a league nowhere near as good as the NBA right????? Its not like the guy has dominate at any point of his career. We need to have realistic expectations.

Show me a rookie deal for a 2nd round draft pick for a non euro star that is more expensive or even on par with this deal.
