World Cup Thread

I just saw the replay and the US did get screwed on that call. With that being said, why they were even in that situation was their own fault.

Also, do soccer players realize that they are on camera? This flops are worse than Fisher's. There was zero contact with the leg and the dude went flying like Bruce Lee kicked him. lol

This has got to be the strangest World Cup on record. Don't get me wrong I really like that it's a lot more competitive and I'm proud of our CONCACAF brothers from Mexico taking out the stupid pacifists from France but golly. Switzerland over Spain? Mexico over France? Ghana over Serbia? And that's without talking about all the draws that shouldn't have been draws. I will be getting up early tomorrow to watch the 6:30 Germany match and then the US at 9:00. Should be a fun morning!

EDIT: I am in Central Time Zone so for you Utah people it is at 5:30 for Germany and 8:00 for the US

Add to this Serbia over Germany and England can't beat Algeria.

Archie you do realize what you are doing right? It's pretty obvious to all of us who follow this thread.
Your smug passive-aggressive ******** is getting stupid.

Was Dick Bavetta officiating today's game?

I don't understand a whole lot about Soccer but what the hell was up with that call?

Early nominee for best actor?

Yeah, I agree the flopping is turrible. Out of duty, I felt obligated to watch part of the USA game with my daughter. I want her to enjoy playing soccer. But I was at a loss to explain the disallowed goal, other than to say refs are a bunch of $&$&^ *&*()&)*() *&%^&* and they should be taken behind the shed, $%$&&^&*, then %^&$&* and finally #$%#$%^**&.

Seriously, I just had to tell her the ref made a mistake. They're human and it happens. My next father/daughter talk will center on betting, point spreads and the influence of organized crime in professional sports. As she is a very bright 5-yr old, I'm sure she'll understand.

Good parenting. But that ref was bad. That was not his only serious error of the game. The hand ball called on Robbie Findley was grievous not only because it was a bad call at the time (the ball deflected off his face and possibly grazed his arm - which was at his side, as it should be) but also because of the implications for the next game. Findley's WC may be already over if the US can't beat Algeria.

Give her the book about Donaghy.

Having only read page 8 of this thread, anyone heard about the copious amount of whining the French team is doing? Refusing to practice, refusing to train, losing to Mexico. Reading Sport Illustrated today it sounds like the English team is about to mutiny too. Hopefully the US use this opportunity to stick it to Algeria and move into the elimintation round.

Yeah, neither the Limeys nor the Frogs deserve to advance any further.
