What's new

Would you be ok with Corbin starting a new offensive system?

If I had to pick a system that would compliment our players and give is the best chance of winning would be the triangle offense. You don't have to have a dominate low post presence. Your pg doesn't handle the ball as much. Most of the offense goes through the wings. A big who can hit a jump is important though. Burke's would thrive in this system as would Hayward. Jazz would need a couple 3 pt shooters and trade Jefferson.

Bring jackson in as a consultant for the offseason or tex winter if he is still alive.

Wait, didn't Minnesota run the triangle offense with Jefferson under one of Phil Jackson's former assistants?

Trust me, I'm not defending Corbin, I think he moves like a slug when it comes to making in-game adjustments and lineup changes, but...did you know that the great Jerry Sloan was also swept in his first playoff appearance with the Jazz and was thoroughly outcoached & dominated by a different coaching legend (Don Nelson). Very similar to what happened to the 2012 Jazz except Sloan's team was the #2 seed, with home court advantage and was an overwhelming favorite to win the series...

That is why I said they would have to trade Jefferson.

I remember reading some column on Grantland about the triangle and how it is probably going to be a lost art because no one knows how to teach it. If we wanted to run it though, Brian Shaw would be the only guy that I would think would use it.

Well Ty aint Jerry and even then jerrys system did not win us a championship. I d like to see much more open offense with less little intricacies that confuse so many players. We need better shooters for any offense to work as well. I think koc has a lot of work to do. I trust he will make some big changes.

I think we lack the personel at this point to run it anyways, right?

Imagine how good this offense would have been had Hayward, Harris, CJ, Howard, anyone hit 3's consistently this season. We were the 4th highest scoring team in the NBA and the 9th best FG percentage. But we were pretty much last in 3 percentage. If we hit our threes at the same clip as the spurs we would have been a top 5 team in point difference not even factoring in how much it would have opened up the paint. His offense seems good enough its the Defense that needs to get to Spurs level. I dont care really what the defense scheme we run, Corbin just needs to get the team to buy in and do it together. Games we looked the best in this season is where we made correct rotations and played great defense. I really think the training camp this year is going to improve the defense a lot. Other than that I would like to see Corbin figure out a rotation that works and not keep changing the players who rotate and then not be so strict when players come in and out.

Well a start would be to watch the SPurs, they have had a lot of success. Their spacing is great, they pass the ball, and they make shots. The key is that the Spurs don't get good shots they make the extra pass to get a great shot. Seriously, I would have the Jazz players watch the series and see how they Spurs dissected them and then at least take some of the things they do and implement them into our current offense.

Right now the biggest problem is the Jazz don't have the right personal (lack of shooters) but there are still components of what the Spurs do that would be helpful to the Jazz as a team (mostly spacing).

...more likely, no one knows how to run it! It takes brains to know where to be and where to go in the triangle. Coaches can teach it......but players have to be smart enough to run it.

you guys dont want to see a track meet?
if we really want to make it exciting then.......r
If I am the Jazz. I have someone cherry pick all game long that should open up the offense

I think Jazz lack personnel to run any offense. They lack personnel to learn the triangle, let alone play it. Corbin has played inside triangle and knows how to teach it.

--Lack a point guard who can create for others
--Lack outside shooting
--lack mid range shooting
--Lack a PnR/PnPop big and point guard
--Lack above average dribbling and shooting required to run Princeton
--Lack Iso players which now dominate NBA ball
--Lack a constantly moving, screen cutting player like Rip, Reggie, Korver, or even Matt Harpring
--Nellie Ball sucks and this team couldn't run and gun anyway

I just found this video of NYK which shows exactly what the Jazz tried several times to failure in game 2 (Substitute Novak and Melo with Harris and Jefferson). No offense works in the NBA without a match up advantage. Jazz have none against +500 competition.

Lack midrange shooting? Our starting Center, Power Forward, Shooting Guard, and Point Guard (to a lesser extent) can all hit the midrange shot fairly well.
Lack a PnR/PnPop big and point guard? We lack the PG, but Favors can roll and Millsap can pop. Hayward can run it, but he needs to be more aggressive. It's not like Harris is completely useless in the pick n' roll either.

Maybe you missed the recent 4 game sweep. Thanks for the laughs Cy.
