Wow.

Comparing Griffin's injury to this? That's like comparing a skinned knee to a torn acl.

Oh, not to mention Embiid's back issue...

Worked with Blake Griffin. Well, technically I believe he was hurt during the pre-season.

Blake suffered a torn mcl, right? Those aren't nearly as serious as a torn ACL or broken foot. A broken foot especially for a 7 footer? Ummmmm yeah. Red flag.

Griffin didn't break his foot. It was his knee. There are plenty of examples of big guys breaking their foot and never being the same or having multiple issues with it.

The foot issue is a big deal, but at this point, I'd rather take a gamble on him being able to play than being stuck with some guy at #5. Is his injury that much more of an issue than Gordon not being able to shoot? I don't think so.

The problem is, he might not be able to play. The article talked about big men who suffered navicular injuries. 3 of the 5 examples, Borchardt, Yao Ming, and Bill Walton played in 424 of a possible 1312 games. That means they missed almost 70% of their games. Two others, McHale and Ilgauskas, came back and had productive careers. So it's a crapshoot but most of the evidence points to a lot of missed games for a guy that needs to be on the floor to develop. Combine that with the back injury and it doesn't look good. I guess the difference between him and Gordon is that Gordon would actually be on the floor. In any case, without knowing more about the severity of the injury it's hard to form an opinion.

No. There are three things that cause talented big men to retire: bad back, bad knees, and bad feet. He has two of the three already and has yet to play an NBA game. Not just no, but hell no!

I don't know why the kids on this board can't comprehend this. Maybe they're just too young?

Yup - nice summary, sorry I didn't have time.

I understand your point. Maybe this is foolish of me, but I realize that we already suck, and I'd like to at least take a shot at having a potentially elite player. Embiid is a game changer, I don't think anybody else that should be available at our slot is.

I don't know if I would do this, would have to know what other options are out there for moving up. Probably a 50/50 chance he's Oden at this point.

This is a legit point. I'll rep.

The Jazz aren't winning a championship anytime soon. If he ends up being Oden... Well... We can tank again next year or the year after.

However, are jazz fans willing to see us miss the playoffs 5+ years in a row? Are they willing to see us the doormat of the WC for probably 2-3 more years? Remember, if we get nothing out Embiid this year, how won't we finish at or near the bottom of the WC?

Not foolish at all. It's a chance at greatness. I'm game.

I agree. And I've voted NO on Embiid. My response was just to having someone take a year off. AS ellipse pointed out, bad back, bad knees or bad feet seem to be the three big killers of bigs. I was VERY concerned over the back. The foot removes him completely. I wouldn't touch him in the top-10.

Terrible season from Gordo. Burke was a rookie and missed 14 games. Favors missed some time. With JUST the core-5 starting, and the new coaching staff focusing on player development, I see Utah winning 30-35 games next season. This is a pretty strong draft. Next year, who knows what we'll get in the 8-12 range. Another player like Burke? Another Hayward?

You lied.

Add that he is probably 23-25 years old...

Lol…what?

Just cause he was born in Africa doesn't mean he doesn't have a birth certificate. Good grief.

1) I don't have ESPN insider. I don't pay for garbage.

2) The foot issue is a big deal, but at this point, I'd rather take a gamble on him being able to play than being stuck with some guy at #5. Is his injury that much more of an issue than Gordon not being able to shoot? I don't think so. Besides, no matter who we draft, we're going to be in the lottery for at least one more year…why not take a risk for once?

Factor in that you have a very inexperienced player who needs PT, but will struggle to get consistent PT from what seems like, best case scenario, a lot of nagging injuries that will sideline him throughout his career. Seems like all this will really stunt his growth and development, and at worst, these become serious injuries that sideline him for majority of seasons.

If this was last years draft, I would do the risk. In this year's I wouldn't. Too many all-star player potential players left on the board at #5.

I think I'm gonna back out of my decision to say yes to this. Reading more about his injuries more, scares me. I don't think I would draft him at 5.
