What's new

Would you rather have us in the playoffs or getting better draft picks?

Playoffs or draft glory?

We’ll match up against Houston. Those guys are weak and will collapse.

I have this sneaking feeling the Jazz could actually be players in 2019 free agency if the Jazz make the right moves to preserve cap while simultaneously being a good team and revered organization.

So, playoffs.

Additionally, I just don't see the Jazz sucking enough to get a top-10 pick. So they might as well make the playoffs at that point in my mind. And hell, if they can get healthy and can resolve this Rubio/Favors roster debacle, they could maybe even make a little noise.

Playoffs, mainly because they're not going to suck enough to get a deep impact pick. Right now Jazz pick about 12 - I doubt they go much lower than that if at all.

I know the draft fan boys will be all over me but I don't see much difference between 12 and 15. Pretty much everything after 4 is a crap shoot anyway.

If The Jazz can come in a steal one from Houston or GSW and give DM a chance to play on a national stage, I think it would do more for the brand than a #12 pick.

just another year that we're stuck. This team if healthy should be easily top 5 in the west.
what to do with Exum
waiting for Rudy
in out Hood
one thing for sure - Rubio can't play slow Qball - he is so polite and quietly earn his 28mil.
another is DL is a genius and bring us Donovan - that's it.
Worst scenario 8th seed and 16-20 pick - lost year.

Playoffs, because you play to win. Besides, if guys get back (like Dante), we're no pushover. Certainly not for Houston. GSW will be tough.

I’d like to see another year of assets. We don’t need to be in the top 10. Look at what Kuzma or Bell are doing. Package favors, Rubio, or Burks and begin the quick one year rebuild and retool for next year.

The Lakers are a team stacked. I think we could benefit honestly from having another year of 2 young and exciting draft picks to make us longer, more athletic, and better at shooting from the outside.

If Hood, Favors and Burks(not to mention the Jazz in general) didn't have such a depressing injury history I would be all for the playoffs since we could be formidable(especially if we had Dante). But those guys might be injured or coming off a injury. And as the 7th or 8th seed we'd go out in the first round anyways. Since our window with Donovan and Rudy(Dante, Jingles) is fairly wide open, I say we maximize draft potential. Play for next year when Dante is back and Hood(possibly Burks) is still with us. Leverage Favors, hopefully get a good player or two in the draft. Vie for best in the West in a couple of years.

Don't forget we got DM, Rudy and Hood pretty deep in the draft. If Dennis were lousy at drafting I might think differently.

tbh i think dante is finished.
Me too.

Also, Burks/Favors trade value might never be higher.

Buy low sell high. I’d love to get a draft pick for Burks right now and turn it into the next Kuzma or Jordan Bell.

Honestly, I just don’t trust Burks, Favors, or Exum to stay healthy.

tbh i think dante is finished.
Remove where he was drafted and his impressive off-the-bounce speed, and I am not even sure he's an NBA player and the statistics bear that out.

I'm not saying to cut him or anything like that, but I am saying I'm not sure he's even worth his QO.

I’ve been watching a lot of nba this past week due to my surgery. A few things are clear:

# 1 There’s a lot of talent out there. The lakers have it stockpiled. When Kuzma isn’t going off, Ingram is. When neither is going off, they have randel and Ball who are great talents already. Look at the rockets, Gordon came off the bench and killed us.

As we’ve seen you don’t have to draft top 5 to get talent. Especially today, where size and position matters little. Find someone who can run or shoot and you can find them a spot, much like how Draymond Green has made a career. 10 years ago he would’ve been dismissed as a tweeter. Not in today’s league, where he can literally be asked to play 1-5 positions. Just like how the jazz play Jingles, Mitchell, Hood, and Burks at the 1-3 without any specific position being set.

If anything, the league playing without any set positions has made drafting a more simplified process. No longer do you need a traditional PG to set up your offense. Just get a tremendous athlete who can tear it up on the P&R and let him do his thing (like Mitchell or Westbrook or Harden or DeRosen or Kyrie or Booker or DLil)

#2 we lack talent. Part of it is due to injuries. But another part is due to a need to rebuild for another year or two. We need to get an AI, Casspi, Gordon, Ginobli, etc who can come off our bench and drop big numbers. I’m not seeing that from Neto or Griffin or whatever else is on our bench. We just need another year to get us some athletes and another shooter or two.

We need to secure talent. At 12 you can get Mikal Bridges or Sexton, picking at 16, it gets a whole lot shadier this year.
Within 1 year we have already lost Hayward, and could lose Hood if someone maxes him. Could also be losing Dante if he signs a 1 year QO, don't consider him a core piece anymore.
