I’ve been watching a lot of nba this past week due to my surgery. A few things are clear:
# 1 There’s a lot of talent out there. The lakers have it stockpiled. When Kuzma isn’t going off, Ingram is. When neither is going off, they have randel and Ball who are great talents already. Look at the rockets, Gordon came off the bench and killed us.
As we’ve seen you don’t have to draft top 5 to get talent. Especially today, where size and position matters little. Find someone who can run or shoot and you can find them a spot, much like how Draymond Green has made a career. 10 years ago he would’ve been dismissed as a tweeter. Not in today’s league, where he can literally be asked to play 1-5 positions. Just like how the jazz play Jingles, Mitchell, Hood, and Burks at the 1-3 without any specific position being set.
If anything, the league playing without any set positions has made drafting a more simplified process. No longer do you need a traditional PG to set up your offense. Just get a tremendous athlete who can tear it up on the P&R and let him do his thing (like Mitchell or Westbrook or Harden or DeRosen or Kyrie or Booker or DLil)
#2 we lack talent. Part of it is due to injuries. But another part is due to a need to rebuild for another year or two. We need to get an AI, Casspi, Gordon, Ginobli, etc who can come off our bench and drop big numbers. I’m not seeing that from Neto or Griffin or whatever else is on our bench. We just need another year to get us some athletes and another shooter or two.
