Actually it is a latin word, or rather a word of latin origin. It comes from "dea" and "deus", which are pronounced "day-uh" and "day-us" or "day-oos". So the "ay" sound kind of carries over with it, meaning you could argue that the correct pronunciation is "day-ity", meaning it follows the part "except in words pronounced as 'ay' such as neighbor and weigh".
