What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

If the Jazz were serious about something like this, here's the order to do it in:

- Guarantee Favors and all the other unguaranteed guys
- Use your $14 Million in remaining cap space to sign a starting PF
- Trade Favors and Korver and a pick to Memphis for Mike Conley
- Trade Gobert+Royce+pick to New Orleans for AD

But to answer your question, I would absolutely trade Gobert for AD.
The issue here is the Jazz still likely wouldn't be good enough to make a real run at a title and they also wouldn't be likely to keep him.

These are the types of swings the Jazz need to consider at some point, I don't think this is the one, though.

This thread may have just crossed into circle jerk territory.
If you were reading, you would find that that's not a very seriously entertained idea.

But to answer your question anyway: because the Jazz are a better team, he'd be getting traded, and you make such a move without the expectation that he re-signs.

The more realistic play is using the capspace to fully or mostly absorb a giant contract and sending picks. That doesn't mean you don't pitch to Tobias on June 30th. That's option 1.

So you get him for one year and give up Rudy for two? Maybe if you have a real shot at the title in that one year... AD, Donovan and Conley for a title? It's possible.

And the Jazz are a better team? I think AD, Zion and Jrue might be better than anything the Jazz could put together with AD and Donovan but I am sky high on Zion.

The NO ship has sailed for him which I think is more the point. I also think Zion is probably the most overrated prospect I've ever seen.

But yeah, the Jazz aren't close enough for that to be a real thought to entertain.

We should not waste our time talking about Chris Paul or AD. Paul is overpaid and on the sharp decline. We cannot beat the deal NY, LA or Boston could give for AD.

Everybody needs to hope for Tobias or Kemba. When those fall through, they need to get excited by the idea of a Julius Randle, Terry Rozier, Bogdanovic, etc. We really should be talking more about the 2nd tier because the 1st tier is so incredibly unlikely.

As for trades, I'm still pushing for Justise Winslow. We could put together the package to make it happen. He could be the best upside prospect we could get this offseason.

This article is total speculation but I'd love it if this happened:

https://soaringdownsouth.com/2019/05/23/2019-nba-draft-atlanta-hawks-taurean-prince/

So what could Prince’s value be ahead of the 2019 NBA Draft? It seems reasonable to expect a 2019 first round pick to be on the board as well as, potentially, another protected first rounder in the future – depending on how desperate teams like the Thunder, Jazz or 76ers are for shooting.

Would any of those three teams be willing to part with their 2019 NBA Draft pick in any transaction with the Atlanta Hawks revolving around Prince? The Hawks certainly hope so, and it certainly seems like a reasonable trade in a vacuum. Only time will tell what Prince’s value is around the league ahead of the 2019 NBA Draft.

Mike Conley Get it done. We sure as hell ain't getting Kemba and it's pretty unlikely Tobias. Get Conley and then hunt around for scraps for PF and shooters.

agree with Zion He's too heavy And needs a lot of work on skills

Rich man’s Anthony Bennett? Or a poor man’s Tony Bennett?

More like a "Let off some steam, Bennett"

Point 4 obviously not happening. On your first three though, if the Jazz could get Niko for 14m and then Favors + pieces for Conley it would be a nice off season.
With Memphis set to take Morant, the stars have aligned somewhat for us to get Conley without giving up as much. Hate the contract, but maybe showing Rudy we
are going all in, he extends for less than the supermax.
