What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Portland was arguably the third best team in the west this year behind Houston and golden state. There’s no shame in losing to Portland unless we’re still under the misconception that we were better than Portland last year. Which is laughable.
Portland had injuries, besides that, they aren’t some juggernaut that is going to go 4-1 against a team as talented as OKC, unless there are issues, which clearly OKC had.

We would have murdered them.

I watched a lot of the playoffs. It’s about skill and shooting... speed isn’t that big of a deal... those games slow down to a grind most of the time.

Portland would have been a dogfight. Every single one of Portland's bigs would take Rudy out to the 3 point line. Stotts is a good coach.

We would have beaten anyone in the West not named Golden St and Houston in a 7 games series. Including Portland. In fact we would have smacked the hell out of a Portland team without Nurkic. Gobert and Favors would have torn that frontline apart in PnR.

If they throw in any kind of draft assets, we should really consider it.

Trade Favors for 2nd rounders and add Ilyasova and another 2nd. Look to lock up Portis for what we have left (around $10 million).

And who’s this Exum you’re talking about? People really expect to get any meaningful production from him this year? Even when healthy he sucked.[/QUOTE]
U have no clue about basketball

Nah pick him up at the min if they waive and stretch him... 7M too important for a couple seconds right now.

How does adding $3 million to their salary cap by adding Favors help them with shedding salary?
I wouldn't trade Favors to the Bucks. I would trade him to another team who would be willing to send minor draft capital (Sac, Boston, Atlanta?).

Then get assets from the Bucks for taking Ilyasova.

Then sign either Mirotic or Portis.

We end up with Ilyasova, Portis, and 2 or 3 2nd rounders.

Tony Jones said during his Q and A on 'The Athletic' that the Jazz have a lot of interest in Mirotic, Thaddeus Young and Bojan Bogdanovic but he doesn't think Bogdanovic will leave Indiana, they also have interest in Portis but are hesitant because he's a restricted free agent. Thabo is for sure not coming back and the Jazz have no interest in bringing AB back even on a vet minimum contract. The Jazz waiving Favors and trading Ingles to free up cap space to try and sign Harris is not going to happen.

Yeah, cuz they’re not trading Ingles.

By the way, I’m calling out Tony’s double-speak: ‘Bogdonavic is the only guy the Jazz would waive Favors for.’
‘The Jazz are very interested in *a bunch of free agents that are worth the full MLE or higher*’

BOTH. THINGS. CAN’T. BE. TRUE.

Dropping Favors gets you 17 million in capspace, adding Ilyasova gets you back 14 more. You now have 3 million in capspace. How are you getting Portis?

I'm thinking the Jazz end up with Portis. Washington already has 2 free agents they prize more and are capped out after that. They just drafted their Bobby Portis replacement. He's available, but we would have to overpay to get him, not leaving much of the Favors salary apple left to build a bench.

7 million still doesn't get you Portis. We should just get Portis and not mess around with Ilyasova.
$7 million is Ilyasova’s salary. Subtracted from $17 million. Which would give you $10 million to go after Portis. Not $7 million.

Anyway, spending all that space on two 4s would be dumb, so

If you could get Portis for 10 to 12 million, that would be amazing. I think 15 is the magic number that chases Washington away though.
