Youth Movement Trade Idea with Houston

Utah gets Thabeet and Hill or Lee for Jefferson. Utah saves about $7 million, can run a more uptempo style, and have two young prospects that they could build with as part of their future core. Thabeet may never be worthy of the #2 pick, but if they could turn him into Eaton Jr. that would be huge. Houston gets a low post presence that will allow Martin to create on the outside and be a solid frontline with Dalembert and Scola. Jefferson is not Pau Gasol, but he is a post presence and at a cheaper price.

If I were the Jazz GM, if that was the final offer, I'd do it. Would try to extract picks of some kind, but I don't think it would happen because Houston would decline the offer anyway.

Thabeet would be a decent fourth big off the bench, unlike Jefferson, and I'd probably do Courtney Lee to keep the Jazz' best players (front court) from having a logjam.

This isn't a horrible idea like most trade ideas. The talk here in Houston is always about needing a great center. Big Al isn't that but he does fill a need as a post scorer. Pairing him with Dalembert would give them some strength inside.

We have to take Thabeet to make the salaries work and to make them feel like they are getting something for nothing. He is basically worthless but cheaper than Jefferson. Lee would help us on the perimeter but would have to be extended as a RFA- he is on the last year of his rookie deal. So we may be letting him go to leave cap space to use the Trade Exception from Memo.

This would make our big man rotation very thin. We would need to pick us some more depth from somewhere. And we would probably lose a lot.

They point of this deal would be to just move Jefferson to get him out of the way of our bigs and improve our lottery pick.

I think Al Jefferson for Jordan Hill and Thabeet works perfectly. It gives the Jazz some young big man depth by continuing the youth movement and doesn't make Houston have to give up a lot.

Does it really mean that much to you to get credit for some trade fantasy?

Jeffrey32, I applaud you. Not bad. Though we may be able to also get a 2nd round pick or two which is better than not getting them. Stockpile picks baby. Stockpile picks.

I like the idea of trading with Houston and giving them Big Al. But instead of taking yet another young project C in Thabeet, and while Lee is solid, I would focus on getting a veteran, athletic wing who can defend the perimeter, pass the ball, and hit the open shot. Iggy > Lee. Here's my trade proposal that I just posted on the Big Al has to go thread:

And I think Philly would be amenable to taking Bell, not just because he used to play there, but because he'd be a decent backup who could help tutor Turner, but who wouldn't demand as many minutes as Iggy. Why? Because his voodoo spell that he has cast over the Jazz FO won't work in Philly. Haha. And Collins is a tough veteran coach who won't feel obligated to start or play Bell lots of minutes.

And instead of having a young unproven C like Thabeet, I would focus on the young bigs we already have (Favors and Kanter), and sign a cheap veteran like Pryzbilla or Elson to be that 4th C who can step up in case of an injury, but who also wouldn't mind riding the pine.
