Zach Lowe tells Utah (and a couple other teams) what to do in free agency

And what if they had "thrown away" Barnes after he had struggled his first few years or decided to bring in a veteran and give Green 5 mins or so off the bench. Sign Pleiss, continue to explore trades for Burke (that would be icing on top), but Bake The Damn Cake!

They could probably replace Barnes pretty easily.

Never suggested giving away Hood (I guess Hood is Barnes in this analogy) or giving Green 5 minutes per game (I guess that is Lyles?). It's just adding a high level wing (Igoudala).

Green got 4 years $45 million.

Carroll got 4 years $60 million.

Would have loved to get either, but it looks like Green took a hometown discount and Carroll got about $10 million more than I'd have set as his ceiling.

Tobias Harris is still available and the Magic indicate they won't match a max contract. Given the nature of the relationship between Harris and Skiles, I bet they let him walk regardless of whatever offer he gets. Eager to see what Kanter's market is now. While trading him galvanized the team, I think the Jazz would have been just fine keeping him and having him fill in as the 6th man scorer off the bench. But the defense would have suffered evenin that role.

Looks like the Jazz are bargain shopping in free agency this year. Hell, if they're not going to play the market, I hope they bring in Tomic. They have the cash and cap space to make an offer that accounts for the buyout and a salary that dwarfs Barca's contract.

Add Tomic and Pleiss. Offseason done. Front court depth sorted out for the next 3 years.

Uhh, Green got 22 mpg last year while Lee got 30.

Lee was a core piece in the finals series as he gave them a big boost in hte game 4.

Lee only played in 49 games, and averaged 18 mpg. He was far from a core piece.

Tomic is not coming to the NBA. That ship has sailed. Looks like Ingles, Pleiss and Neto.

Have to give props to DL, the early damage control worked and he has a lot of the jazz fan base thinking not adding any talent is a good move.

Numb said Lee and Green have never been simultaneously core pieces at any point for the Warriors.

I said they were last year (which is true, look at it).

You can even argue that 18 mpg is a core piece. That is a significant amount of time being played.

I agree. Well played by DL and you called it. Not sure, but the money being spent seems excessive. Think I'd rather see them make a trade for an existing contract. Even if they have to overpay to get them.

He was a key piece, not a core piece. Big difference. If he was a core piece, they wouldn't be trying to dump him and use assets to do it.

And this last season, Lee was DNP-ed for half of it and played 18 mpg in the games he did play. Green was a rotation player previous to this season, he became a core piece this year, which is precisely what made Lee expendable and not a core piece.

I've been a Jazz fan long enough to know that there are never rumors until something happens. When they go after someone or try to make a trade they do it quietly. It's few and far between but when it happens there is never any warning.

For 50 games? That means squat. You don't look to dump a core piece. Lee isn't a core piece, and hasn't been since December.

This is quibbling over semantics, so whatever.

Not so fast. DL said that he's still waiting on specific contract info to come out (i.e. if a buy-out is possible)

...... are you saying that my twitter account isn't gospel?

Sounds more like splitting hairs to me. Hood averaged 21 mpg, Im pretty sure everyone refers to him as a core piece.

The point was they added Igoudala before the whole Lee not playing many minutes thing, while he was still considered part of the "core" (which I believe includes Green).

Lmfao-- it's because he's expected to ramp up his minutes. We aren't on the verge of dumping him

Probably cuz they believed in playing Draymond at the 4 by the end of the season.

I think we are in on Harris... not saying we will get him. Steve Kyler tweeted (and he knows Tobias very well) that they have talked with several teams that asked not to be disclosed (sounds like a Jazz thing to me). Boston is likely the frontrunner. Why wouldn't the Jazz want their name out there with these free agents? Because we have to cut ties with Booker to sign one... if it doesn't work out you don't want Book to hear all about how you tried to get this other guy but couldn't get it done.

We likely make only minor moves, but that doesn't mean we aren't in on bigger ones.

Jazz have been involved in a ton of rumours over the past few years (as recently as reports to trade up for Winslow, or trading Sap for Bledsoe, etc. etc.)

what's your point? Please tell me it isn't that the lack of evidence is evidence. TIA
