Zach Lowe tells Utah (and a couple other teams) what to do in free agency

Guys remember how bad the University of Kentucky was this year at basketball because they got too many talented players and not everyone played "starter" minutes?

Who says he has to start? He is our super sub.

This.

Can someone explain the downside of signing Harris to a big deal?? I'm missing it bigtime.

Who on the roster gets snubbed? Ingles? Millsap? Tobias is younger than Delon Wright, does that not seem low risk? The Jazz have all these bargain deals on the books and they cant afford to splurge on an obvious talent like Harris who averaged 17ppg last year?? not buying it.

they'd still have room to resign all the core guys, plus he clearly adds a dimension to the team with his shooting at 4.

Me and PGAB agree on something, the sky is falling.

Bellineli is really the only mid-tier wing I have an interest in.

another interesting proposition. I can see the Jazz go after him. I'm only weary cuz many on SpursTalk seem to absolutely hate the guy (mostly for defensive reasons, and streakiness).

Matthews also, depending on how you tier him because of injury.

Too expensive for the Jazz, most likely.

How would you distribute minutes with Harris on this team? Also, say we offer him a max, and so do Detroit, Boston, and ATL. Why would he sign with Utah?

Because it was most likely the best offer, monetarily-speaking, that he received. 99% of NBA players would go to a team where they have a larger role, if salaries and playoff-prospects for the next three years are equal.

He could have received similar offers other places... he went for cheap last year it was a bit of a surprise.

The celtics are a treadmill team... they have no players that are even borderline all stars... playoff prospects are only equal because they are in the east and championship/deep playoff run opportunities are not even close if you compare us to them.

they also play in a tough/abrasive market. Utah fans are pretty crazy, but its much more laid back here. If I was choosing and dollars are equal I'd go to Boston... but I'd consider Utah for sure.

Not necesarily true. Jazz can put up an offer of around 12 mill witout sacrificing Booker. Then if they cut Millsap, Johnson, Cooley and Cotton...

Trade Burke and get a non-guaranteed player and/or a draft pick and the offer can jump up to about $14.5 million in the first year. That's keeping Bookerand before you have to deal with Cooley or Johnson. Pretty sure they just keep Cotton and Millsap.

Utah has much more upside and is further along than Boston or Detroit. Atl is another matter but don't sell what this team has going short.

Cut Millsap and relegate Joe Ingles to towel waiving duty, thats a major chunk of the minutes. The offense still sucks, don't you realize this? why not upgrade from journeymen to a promising young player? its not going to hamstring the cap.

Time to pounce?

Where do you play Green? Small forward? Not sure I like that any more than signing Paul Millsap to play the 3. I do love Draymond Green's intensity, trash talk and defense. Don't think he's a wing, and I don't disrupt the Favors/Gobert dymamic.

Plus, the Warriors match any contract offer he signs elsewhere. Don't get your hopes up.

Just like that... Thompson is getting 30 more million than Favors on his contract. LOL! What a steal we got!

I'd like to kepp Booker, Cotton and Millsap.

Burke, Johnson and Cooley can all be traded first to further a deal.

I'm fine with Draymond at the 3.

Trust me, I realize.

that is 16 minutes, at the absolute most. More likely 13-14 minutes. I'm assuming you want him getting his other minutes behind Favs, cut Booker, DNP Lyles through the entire season, and keep everything else intact?

I'd probably make an offer. Minuscule chance he accepts.

They never shoulda let him out without a deal... gonna get the Hayward poison options now. Great job Warriors!

I'd be fine with Draymond at the 3, too. Also, you have to look at it not just as a player, but also as an asset!
