Well our stay here is open-ended. As far as the gubmint is concerned (both Germany and the US) we are here on a permanent stay, or until we get sick of it. Right now we have our sights set on an 18-month stay mostly because now that we are here we realize how much we miss our family, especially the other kids we left behind, the granddaughter, and the grandparents. But who knows? My mom and dad have talked about coming to spent a half a year with us, which would require special permission from the German government. And if my bonus comes in at enough to bring the rest over for a few visits we may be here longer. Right now it is just up in the air, really.

Another reason we have our sights set on 18 months is we are opening 2 new facilities in the US around that timeframe and I would likely be offered to take one over as the site leader/director. One is planned for Phoenix AZ and the other, and here you are not far off the Bakersfield analogy, is planned in Ontario or thereabouts. So we'll see.
 
One of my BFF's kept telling me to watch Rectify and I finally did. I binged the **** out of the first two seasons. You should too. Some exemplary acting by Aden Young. The religious overtones in the movie are also welcomed when juxtaposed to the secular Holden (Aden's character).

I believe season 3 is currently airing and/ or close to finishing and season 4 is right around the corner.
 
Netflix's Narcos about Pablo Escobar is very good.

My only issue with it is how quickly it just sort of glazes over interesting aspects of his life. I'm about four episodes in and I think around six years have gone by.

Here's a list of stuff I've seen the last month or so...

Dave Attel's Road Work - I've been a huge fan of Attel since his days on Comedy Central. Guy brings it Stanhope style and he's incredibly quick witted. Definitely not for the faint of heart as a result of the mature subject material. If you don't want to be offended, don't watch it.
Blackfish - Finally saw it. It's a piss poor documentary. I don't go to zoos or marine parks as they bum me out so I didn't need any convincing but the film was very meh.
I'm Not Scared (2003) - An Italian film that was a joy to watch. 90% on the ol' RT.
Una Noche (2012) - Cuban film. Good acting from the kids though a rather unbelievable scenario in the latter half of the film though it wouldn't surprise me if it was true. Another good watch and an agreeable 80% on RT.
Somm (2012) - I didn't really know anything about the wine world and the master sommelier test so I gave it a watch. It was worth it. Would watch again. 77% on RT.
Sound and Fury (2000) - If you want to see a movie that will make you angry against a group of folks that you never thought you could be angry against watch this movie. It's the story of two brothers and their respective decisions in getting a cochlear implant for their own deaf children.

And, Blue Is The Warmest Color (2013) - Gulp. A simple beautiful movie with a deserving NC-17 rating if you compare it to other domestic American movies. A little long but superb acting by two absolutely stunning female leads. The sex scenes are graphic and if watching folks make love makes you uneasy, well, this is NOT the movie for you. I will agree that there are some shots that are gratuitous but I also think the French have a different outlook on sexual subject matter especially when compared to the puritanical Americans. Watch it!

I saw The Trials of Muhammad Ali (2013) today.

While I knew about Mr. Ali's conversion to Islam, I didn't know about all that he went through as a result of his conversion and his conscientious objection to fighting in the Vietnam War. Tis' a really well made documentary with the some fantastic footage and great interviews. I've a new found respect for Muhammad Ali now.

I've been a fan of James Randi since as long as I can remember and while there were many things I already knew about the man, this documentary showed me a completely new side to Mr. Randi.

It's a fantastic piece of work and scores a solid 97% on RT.
 
The other day I watched Force Majeure and it's narrative is rather topical to the announcement of FOJ's future fatherhood, especially after I made the post regarding Dad instincts. It's a good watch.

In regards to the film, considering the location of the shoot, the DP does an incredible job of composing and framing shots for the movie. The sound was also worthy of being mentioned as it played a roll in setting the mood in a movie that was mostly without a score.
