Is Jimmer Fredette Mormon?

if so, that increases his chance being drafted by jazz

Sure increased Shawn Bradley's chances, or Danny Ainge's chances, or Keth van Horn's chances, or Steve Young's chances, or Michael Doleac's chances, or the many other Mormons that have been in professional basketball and not played for the Utah Jazz.

In other words, less trolling and more deleting of your account is requested.

In defense of GSAT's position, he is talking about drafting those players, not simply having them ever play here in their career. We were never in a position really to draft those guys to begin with so it is a moot point.

That said, no it means nothing if Jimmer is mormon and whether the Jazz will draft him or not.

if the jazz draft jimmer iam no longer a jazz fan, this guy is so overrated! he is going to make adam morrison, jj redick look like all stars

Really if the Jazz end up somehow with a late first-rounder picking up Jimmer would not be worst thing in a rather thin draft. Anything higher than about 14 or 15 is a travesty, although most draft board have him in the top 12 right now.

So far my favorite Jazzfanz quote of 2011.

I'm actually going to defend the OP on this one. I don't think he was implying that the Jazz always look to draft Mormons. I'm guessing what he was trying to say is that Jimmer being Mormon might be a plus for the Miller family and KOC because they know they wouldn't be brining in a high draft pick who would experience Utah culture shock, thus making it much more likely he'd like to stay in Utah long term.

Let's be honest, that very thinking is the EXACT reason that the Jazz have had one of the whitest teams in the NBA for quite some time. White guys tend to enjoy Utah more. I think a few easily offended Mormons mistook the OP's originial intention.

For the record, I'm not against Utah drafting Jimmer with their 2nd pick (assuming they miss the playoffs and keep it). That pick would probably fall somewhere around 9 or 10 and that seems like a logical place to take Jimmer. However, if this New Jersey pick ends up being in the Top 7 and Utah uses it to take Jimmer, I'd be pretty damned upset.

If I were you I would get prepared for the travesty.

If Jazz don't make the playoffs and have a 11-14 pick you can bet your *** they're going to take him if he's on the board.

So what have the Jazz done that convinces everyone that they are so high on Jimmer? Not being a troll, just curious. I haven't heard anything from them that he is high on their draft board.

He's white and Cub Scout. What he does on the court is no biggie past those 2 qualifiers.

You're putting that much weight on the difference between 7 and 9? What about 8? You picking him at 8?

Any serious responses?

Lots of people seem convinced that he is pretty high on the Jazz draft board and I don't see that. Any reasons why they would be so high on drafting Jimmer?

Yeah yeah I get it, he is mormon or whatever...he is from BYU....he is white...ha ha ha ha ha. We all get it. It is so very funny to hear it the 1,000th time.

Anybody have an actual thought about this?

Nobody knows who is high on the Jazz draft board. They don't talk about it... which is why we are often suprised by their picks. Anybody who thinks they know are just guessing.

my take

Pros:
1. BYU fans spend money on the home town favorite in the form of apparel and maybe even a couple more tickets.
2. 40.4% 3pt shooting with proven NBA range
3. Consistent, 2/31 games with fewer than 20 pts.
4. Probably more happy to be in Utah than the average NBA player (this is pure assumption afaik--lots of mormons prefer not to live in UT)

Cons:
1. Undersized/defensive liability
2. Makes the culture shock that much closer to the court.
3. BYU is a polarizing topic in Utah, even among mormons. Half the state are not cougar fans. (may not decrease revenue, but definitely won't increase it)

I think Jimmer is a pretty risky pick.

My question is do we really need him? If he really is BPA then take him but I am fine w/ harris and Watson as the points in UT (assuming watson re-signs). Jimmer would ride a lot of pine for a loto pick.

Sadly part of that is serious. Look at who the Jazz have drafted. Any guys in there who weren't model citizens? Partly they assume he is high on the Jazz board because he is high on a lot of the mock drafts and plus the Jazz desperately need someone who can shoot.
