What's new

Following 2016 potential draftees

I'm not sure what I'd give up for him, but sometimes you have to take risks to go up. And he's a talent worth taking a risk for. Whether that's Hood, I don't know.

I agree... I'd trade a pick for him... So unknown prospect for unknown injuries.

21 and 11 per 40, which stacks up with all the good bigs in this draft, including Poeltl, and they are roughly the same age.

Well, if that's the case then I would much rather have Sabonis. 22 and 15 per 40 and is a good 10 months younger.

I see more overlooked gems in this draft than last year's. I'm just going to sit back and watch DL work his magic. Drafting Lyles has made me a believer.

Damian Jones no-step vertical of 36'' is the highest recorded for a 6'10 or above player in DX database.

His 11'11 no-step vertical reach is good for 6th overall in DX's database, above both Gobert and Favors.

Sabonis doesn't fit with Lyles tho.

He might be the worst kind of tweener. Not really big enough to be a good passing skilled center... not a good enough shooter as a PF to stretch the defense. Add in fit issues with our current roster.

He might be good, but I just can't get a good read on the type of player he will be. What are his comps?

Sabonis, fits anywhere. He's smart, has a great motor, is a good passer, rebounds, runs the floor and while he won't be great defensively, because he cares, has a high bball IQ and plays hard, he'll be fine there. Bottom line is that he's a guy who will do the dirty work, and play hard for you at the very least.

The vertical leap measurements are highly suspect this year because they build off of standing reach which some think guys sandbagged on.

If the 11'11 is just a straight measurement and not built off of standing reach then that is fairly awesome.

Is he a Kanter who can think, pass, and at least try then?

Well even if he lied about his standing reach, or it was flubbed, it wouldnt matter for the vert+reach = max reach, because if one is lied about the other is bigger so the final number is the same.

I think that describes him pretty well, sure.

And keep in mind, for as much as we like to rip Kanter around here, he was a key rotation guy on arguably the second best team in the league. If you can get that out of #12, you've done pretty well.

That's what I though but wasn't sure how it was measured. Lots of kids with physical tools and athleticism in this draft... gonna be a steal or two after the lottery I thinks.

Just watched Luwawu's video on DX... If we stay at 12 and no one amazing drops I think I want Baldwin or Luwawu most.

So how well you actually play college basketball has nothing to do with anything?

Fixed so your comment was more accurate.

But yeah, how well you play college basketball has something to do with your NBA game, but not everything. Adam Morrison wasnt a great NBA player, was he? He played hard and stuff too.

None of that means I don't like Sabonis, he is an OK prospect in my eyes, but I wouldn't take him over Jones/Davis and I'd probably take Skal over him. I'd draft him ahead of Thon though.

And you are welcome to go through the NBA and find how many bigs in the NBA have nice careers with near equal Wingspan/Height differential.
