I remember we were waiting for so many years for that New York pick (thanks, MTJK) and each year the closer it got the more it looked like it'd be gold. It looked like it would be top three for the first hagfish of the season and I was really eyeballing Evan Turner. Then it kept dropping to 9 and we didn't hit anything in the lottery and we were all bummed about how long we waited for that pick, thinking it we had a treasure map to some hidden gold. Then I started liking Paul George, thinking he could be a poor man's Evan Turner. A friend of mine said we should draft that one white center from Kansas whose name I forget and I thought he was a moron. Then we ended up on the board and took Hayward. I was so pissed. All those years of waiting for the pick and I felt we squandered it. Then I wanted to tell my friend that we may as well have taken that one Kansas dude. However, when I saw him in his first preseason game I felt comfortable that he could play and develop. Really liked when he threw that elbow into Kobe.
In hindsight that NY pick really was a superstar. Let's hope we can keep him.
Here's to Hayward!
