What's new

Gordon Hayward

Your love blinded you.
True. And I just always doubted hayward ever being this good all the way up until this year.
He has become better than I ever expected and deserving of a max deal.

I remember we were waiting for so many years for that New York pick (thanks, MTJK) and each year the closer it got the more it looked like it'd be gold. It looked like it would be top three for the first hagfish of the season and I was really eyeballing Evan Turner. Then it kept dropping to 9 and we didn't hit anything in the lottery and we were all bummed about how long we waited for that pick, thinking it we had a treasure map to some hidden gold. Then I started liking Paul George, thinking he could be a poor man's Evan Turner. A friend of mine said we should draft that one white center from Kansas whose name I forget and I thought he was a moron. Then we ended up on the board and took Hayward. I was so pissed. All those years of waiting for the pick and I felt we squandered it. Then I wanted to tell my friend that we may as well have taken that one Kansas dude. However, when I saw him in his first preseason game I felt comfortable that he could play and develop. Really liked when he threw that elbow into Kobe.

In hindsight that NY pick really was a superstar. Let's hope we can keep him.

Here's to Hayward!

Edit: oh, and I remember his rookie year being reassured by his play and thinking he was more of a Ginobili than a Hornacek.

#BetterThanGinobili

I just remember my dad trolled me (he is a Houston sports fan) with "Of course Utah took a goofy looking white guy" when the pick happened.

How'd you end up a Jazz fan?

The first rec league team I played for was called the Utah Jazz. My dad is a fairly casual basketball fan too. It's hilarious because for years he complained about flopping and 3pt shooting in the NBA and he is a fan of a franchise that shoots the most 3's and flops as much as anyone.

Hayward had a really good series, and one where once again he shows that he continues to evolve as new pressure is put on him. At one point I would have never imagined him being a first option on a playoff team, but he has put in the work, and gone through the bumps in the road in order to become a really top level NBA player. With how physical this series was to average 25+ (minus the FP game) with good efficiency is really impressive.

Who wants to bet against him getting better next season? Hopefully this run has shown him that that the team can be competitive. He's definitely worth a max contract.

He absolutely shut me the **** up.

can he take this confidence and kick it up another notch into next regular season ?? The most impressive is he's just so in control and making good decisions and playing with the team flow.

I don't believe this.

You're a Jazz fan bc you had to be the opposite of your dad. Don't lie to me Cy Rex.

Well actually, being a Jazz fan perfectly aligned into my contrarian style since everyone like Chicago at the time. But it's a true story. My coach gave me Karl Malone's number.

He's been incredible. I've been critical of him disappearing at times in key moments but man this series he showed what he can do when he demands the ball in big spots. Love it!!

So is this the nail in the coffin of the "Hayward isn't clutch", "Hayward isn't a #1 option" crowd??

Dude has been straight up BALLIN' this year and his efforts throughout that series was exceptional, hit some massive shots and played his heart out. Has become of the better 2way players in the league.

Teams arent game planning for Hayward? Wut?
No. Hayward is a very good player but he is not a killer. Not like a Melo.
You don't game plan against Melo, he takes an NCAA championship away from you.
You don't game plan against Melo, he takes an Olympic gold medal away from you.
You don't game plan against Hayward....uhh, Golden State still wins in four.

You should leave this forum and go write Melo slash fiction full time.

Seems like I remember someone saying if New York didn't make it to the finals they'd get banned a few years back...

Sound familiar?

You don't game plan against Melo...until he ends up in China after the Knicks kick him out of NY.
