Trade Favors Before Long

The fact that this is even a topic is dumbs. We're three games into the season.

And Rodney is already missing games. Favors, AB and Hood are injury prone to the max. Not saying that I would pursue a trade immediately but it should be open to discussion for management. Favors especially, with the nefarious back issue, a knee that might fall apart as the season goes on and plantar fasciitis in his history would be at the top of my list for being an open trade option.

If he is wide open he is hitting it at 50%. He's not shooting it a lot right now. We can't get gobert dunks and Ingles threes every time down the court. It is preferable, but not always possible.

If he hits it at 45% and shoots 4 a game it isn't that big a deal... you also have to consider these players aren't robots processing data. They remember sagging off and him hitting them.

I've had rec games where I went like 3/10 on threes and guys were saying "good shooting" after the game... they remember the makes more than the misses. 45% is enough to keep a defense honest... If he shoots 10 a game it becomes an issue. We are not good enough on offense to be dictating every shot we get.

Favs is also defending well... against bigs and perimeter guys. His post scoring isn't great, but punishing dudes going small on him takes it's toll too.

I feel like it is working thus far. Why do people want to trade the guy?

First, NBA level play is far different than rec league. Teams build entire game plans around who they want shooting the ball and who they don't and the team that executes on that plan the best usually wins. They know exactly who is shooting when and how the plays run down and that is part of the in-game adjustments an NBA coach makes, reminding his players to let the big guy shoot an 18 footer rather than leave something else open, and they usually execute on these plans pretty well.

Second, you said exactly what I did. Of course if the shot is there he should take it, if it comes to him in the flow of the game. I said that using it as a "weapon" or an actual game plan of some kind is a bad move. It is a tactic, not a strategy. A few shots a game are fine, but to think this is somehow a move we want as a designed play or a go-to when the going gets rough or something is just bad strategy.

And third, no one said "dammit go trade Favors now, for a cheese sandwich if you have to!!" Well maybe someone earlier on said we should trade him while his stock is high (and he is relatively healthy which boosts the price), but mostly we were saying we would be OPEN to a trade that made sense. Don't get your knickers in a knot bro.

After reading, here are my thoughts:

#1 - we should not try to trade him right now. However, we need to consider deals from contenders when we get into December. Somebody like Boston might try to fix/enhance their season by adding much needed post depth. They have picks and need to perform this season.

#2 - Favors shooting 45-50% from very long 2 just doesn't excite me or scare the opponent.

#3 - he has to rebound better. Those numbers are pathetic right now.

#4 - I still do not see him staying or us paying him fair money next summer. I just don't see it for us or for him.

#5 - Favors is playing well and I'm proud of him for his current form. Also, Joe and Udoh are doing great.

I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.

Even just 3 games in his rebounding numbers are a bit disconcerting. He needs to step that up. Tonight will be a HUGE test as the Clippers have guys that rebound very well. Jordan started the year with a 24 rebound game. I think a big part of the game tonight will be who can control the boards.

Favor's is boxing out in games. Rebounding is a very overrated stat. Is he giving up o boards that he should be getting? The team in general could rebound better including Favor's but I mostly care about team stats on rebounds not individual. Boozer and Westbrook are good examples of players that get good rebounding numbers but their stats are overinflated.

I would like to see more offensive boards from him and the Jazz but Snyder has them run back right away most of the time.

Look my bad... I just have a problem with people seeing this good dude who is contributing and made it back from injury and looks great... and we are like "better trade him now".

It is just puzzling. The lack of space has not been an issue. Favs has also defended on the wing and held his own down low. Dude checked Wiggins and Carmelo for portions of the last two games.

His shooting may not continue, but that elbow/above free throw line jumper has been money and he looks really confident taking it. He hits that enough and in the flow of the offense and its fine.

If we got a great offer I'd be fine with trading him, but I don't know that we'd be better with a stretch 4 unless they can also defend and create... the list of dudes that can do that is small... so let's just enjoy the Favs renaissance and realize it may not be perfect, but it is fine right now and there aren't any really good options right now.

The Minnesota game wasn't great, but Taj Gibson was basically assaulting guys around the basket and not getting called for it.

Yeah, that jumper is sweet. Almost looks automatic. And he has come back and looks healthy. If he had injuries as opposed to just seemingly falling apart I'd be more comfortable with his future. And if he had a killer instinct with max effort always like Rudy it would be different. I guess I remember too well those times of his half-hearted play even 2-3 years into his career, before the injuries.

I don't question his effort... he's different than Rudy, but he gave us heart and guts last year in the playoffs.

I think he looks a lot lighter and that will help with the other stuff. I'm hopeful he will stay healthy and I don't know that there is a $20M/year offer out there for him even if he does. Maybe he comes back at a similar number next year... I'll worry about that later and just enjoy what he is doing.

That is not a voice of reason. A long 2 isnt anywhere close to a 3 in terms of spacing. Teams want you to shoot long 2's.
