What's new

Nikola Mirotic

And where does it actually get us?
Where does it get us? Having one of the best stretch fours in the league. Do you think Donovan Mitchell 2.0 is waiting in the wings if we give up a protected pick?

It's over guys. Mirotic was not worth a first rounder. Dumping Asik and including a 1st was worth Mirotic. Sure, we could have given JoeJ and a similar 1st for Mirotic, but that would have been severely overpaying if you use the NOLA deal as an example.

Chicago wanted a 1st that we were never going to give. Let's move on.

Trading Kanter to OKC for Harden was overpaying. Trading AK to SAS for Ginobili was overpaying.

If we were closer Id agree. We aren’t an actual contender right now, we are in the middle. Giving up those assets for a win a few more right now is short sighted. If we were knocking on the door of the conference finals or finals and this move would put us over the top you make that move. We are not there, you don’t just hand picks over for very little gain.

Mirotic' career 3p% is 36%. His career FG% is 41%. Hood has better %s than that and he's a freaking guard that gets annihilated by Jazz fans for being inconsistent. Come on, you are acting like we lost on Kevin Love in his prime. The guy couldn't even start on a trash Bulls team.

I mean... I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on him to see how he fits, but he's not worth a first from the Jazz.

I dont think Mirotic would only help us win a few games I think he would be very successful in our system. I think he could have helped us to the playoffs this year, which would be huge for Mitchell's development and we could make a real run with him over the next few years at being a top 4 team in the West. Next year or this year if you picked him up you look for 1 more wing player and a very good playoff team.

But I also think a lot of people (not sure were you are at) only look if a move helps us compete for a championship. If we only make moves based on that we would never make a move. We are very unlikely to ever win a championship. Our best bet is to try and be a top 4 team in the West and hope to get incredibly lucky. There are no potential moves to get us on GS level.

That trade gets you swept in the first round by the Warriors.... I think you’re over valuing Mirotic.

We've been over it multiple times. There's a greater body of evidence showing he's a good three point shooter. His volume is unmatched. Other stretch fours have similar percentages such as Love (36.8), Dirk (38.3), Memo (37.5). Hell, even Larry Bird (37.6) and Chris Mullen (38.4) didn't have great percentages. Even Stockton (38.4).

I think, to the contrary, many people are undervaluing Mirotic.

Mirotic has proven half a season. I agree Mirotic could work well here. Operative word is COULD. Again, it gets you swept in the first round with no pick.

I think you are undervaluing that and Mirotic. I think he could be a borderline all-star player or even an all-star in the right situation. I think getting swept in the first round is not a bad thing. I think it is great for our development of this team and then next year we can get a higher seed and get rolling.

Plus a lottery protected 1st would have got it done so we would not give up the pick this year anyways.

The only way our pick is worth much is if we miss the playoffs which may or may not happen and we get extremely lucky and make it to the top 3. Mid range picks are much more often a bust and even if they end up being a role player level it takes a few years to get there.

I think you overvalue a pick.

But, there are plenty of other moves to make that would be good for this team. Hopefully we get a deal done, otherwise this was a blunder.

He has 1/2 a season at playing at an all-star level this year in his limited minutes. He has 3 1/2 years of showing he is a good all around player that would fit great in our system.

And he takes more threes than any big man... ever.

A guy fills our biggest position of need -- and is literally the only guy out there that's available, especially at his caliber -- but everyone's more worried about not overpaying. A top 20 protected pick would have closed this deal weeks ago.

I'm closer to your position on wanting Mirotic than many were here, but we just don't know whether the Bulls might have accepted such an offer then. It may have been that they decided to wait until the deadline to see what opened up (in which case it appears they would have been wise). It seems that the first (and as good a first as possible) trumped any of their other priorities. They may not have jumped at a pick that caused them to wait a year or may not have even conveyed as a first eventually.

If its true that Jazz would not give up Hood to get the deal done like rumored I would be grumpy. Mirotic is better than Hood and a better fit for us. Unless we have a big trade lined up for Hood.
