Mitchell just isnt a great player yet. He is a really good player who has great moments, but he cant consistently knock down off the dribble 3's or get to the foul line. Teams seem to be getting better at forcing him into the shots he is bad at and preventing him from getting to the rim as easily as before (which should change when we start playing **** defensive teams again). Against a team like Houston you have to be able to exploit the mismatch on switches and the Jazz just dont have enough talented individual scorers, especially with the Hood trade. Not saying we win this game with Hood, but it probably would have been a cleaner effort with him taking 15 shots instead of Jae Crowder.
Houston just plays so small they are able to switch on the perimeter really well. Jazz couldnt break the paint consistently enough so they werent forcing rotations. Mitchell couldnt really attack off the PNR because of how well they switch and blow up most of what the Jazz wanted to do. Jazz seemed to solve that with their run in the first half, but then it all just fell apart and they lost focus. Then they got frustrated with the refs and lost even more focus.
