Jazz 2017/18 Playoff Bus! All Aboard!

What's the best sauce to serve with my crow?
I have to admit I didn't see playoffs on the horizon back at 19-28. I was thinking about a draft pick ~10.

Championship sauce.

It's ok, even I waivered some. Ended up strapped to the tank at one point. Hence the avatar.

Enjoy

Also now that we are in the playoff it finally feels appropriate to start looking at desirable matchups. Right now we are 4th and the Pelicans are 5th. Obviously the seeding is probably going to change wildly in these last couple games, but the Pelicans are an ideal first round matchup for us. Davis is Davis obviously but we'd have a very good shot in that series. Would much rather play them than the spurs. It'll be interesting to see what Portland and Utah do on the last game of the season if that game decides who will be third. The only team I want to avoid at all costs is the Thunder. They are just a bad matchup for the Jazz. I really want the Thunder to get the 7th or 8th seed because I feel like they could do at least a little damage to Houston or Golden State.

The team I want to play most is Minnesota. Not because the wolves are worse than the Pelicans, but that would be an epic series with a lot of story lines and Ricky beating his old team would be so ****ing sweet. That to me is the most fun possibility for a first round series. Teams actively dislike each other. Thibs meltdown as Rubio knocks down three after three in his face.

Would you want the third seed so you could play GS in the second round? Or would holding the fourth be better so you can play Houston? Both those teams seem unbeatable but ultimately I think I'd rather play the Rockets. The warriors are absolutely playing possum right now and when the post season comes I think they will quickly re-insert their dominance. I would still go for the third seed though unless the first round matchup was the thunder at six, because both the rockets and the warriors are mount Everest anyway. Getting the third seed would be a powerful statement for this team going forward.

Pelicans would be a dream. Utah is giving opposing bigs on teams like this free reign and smothering all other 4 players. AD might average 35 but Utah will outscore.

BTW, what the hell was Favors problem last night? He played like trash on both sides of the court until the 4th.

Rick Pitino.

And The Knicks begged him to stay.
His system didn't work in the NBA. He's the career college guy I was thinking about that it was clear it wasn't going to work. He didn't have an out clause he just left.

Also who would want to coach the Knicks?

@Stoked will you please start a “Jazz 2017/18 Championship Bus! All Aboard!” thread? And sticky it.
Tia.
Wait until the next game thread before starting that thread. There's a new driver for the championship bus (not me). We'll need his luck...

I didn't watch the game at all, but noticed Favors was +30, leading the team. So he couldn't have been THAT bad.

He was pretty darn bad in the first half. Missed easy shots, turn overs, and Randle had his way with him. I'm starting to distrust the box score as I swear he had more turnovers and a couple of blocks (it says zero) and I've noticed Rudy not getting credit for many blocks. Anyway, he played with good squads, hence the nice +30. He was also solid during the key 2nd half Jazz run.

That's not correct - he took The Knicks from 24 to 52 wins in 2 seasons. And this was on top of losing their best offensive player (Bernard King). His last year in NY they were top 10 in offense and defense.

He left The Knicks because he's a control freak and wanted complete run of the franchise - like he had in Boston (with disastrous results)

I think I was remembering his Boston days. But regardless he feels like the exception to the rule.

When we were 19-28 what do you think our odds were to make the playoffs, more or less than our odds to win the West now? Probably way less.

I know we should just be happy with the season whatever happens, the future is bright. I agree with that. But from a different perspective: Warriors happen to be a little shaken up right now, Boston is inexperienced and injured, Philly will only get better. If you’re looking for a very brief open window, this season might be as good as any for the next five or so years.

I know it sounds crazy. But what is the sample size we are waiting for? The current team with current health is 28-5 and 15-1 on the road, are we still going with ‘hot streak’? Maybe it’s who we are.

In a seven game series maybe teams figure out our defense, OR maybe our defense figures them out. Maybe Mitchell turns the playoffs into his own playground. What if he’s just amazing in the biggest moments on the biggest stage? Would you be super shocked?

The realistic goal is to get out of the first round. That would be a huge accomplishment and I’d be thrilled. But don’t stop believing until we have lost 4 games out of 7 (we have one more loss than that in the last 33 games) sometimes everything just comes together for one season, we shouldn’t ignore a potentially open window.
