The Missing Piece

Has he, though? Being upset that CJ Miles is taking the game-winner (and misses, of course) is hardly grounds for disqualification in my mind.
It was a good look. But that's not the problem, stating that I'm the star and that's my shot has red flags all over it. So while the shot was missed it's the way he handled it that sat poorly with me. Also the very calling out of a team mate like that is some locker room cancer ********.

Ehh. Not feeling it. He's done some crybaby **** out there, is fragile, and has sub-par defensive tools and to my knowledge hasn't shown significant effort to make up for it.

I just don't see it. He has more of the makings of fools gold than he does an under-the-radar guy.
I mean Milwaukee was a mess of a team. You’d be taking the chance that a fresh start and our culture whip him into shape.

I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on defense, he’s had two major knee surgeries.

Except he doesn't check one of the 2 main issues. He's in no way shape or form a defensive player.

Also isn't Durable or that versatile. So if missing 3 marks and one of the 2 main one is most then you'd be right. But it's not most and I'm pretty sure he's a bad fit here.
Yea but everyone on the list is impossible to get except Wiggins who is trash with an awful contract, and sure as hell doesn’t check those defensive boxes. And Porter who is not better than Parker and doesn’t have nearly the upside. I’m not sure how a good shooting power forward is a bad fit. Sounds like exactly what we need.

Of course it’s a risk. You’re not gonna find the missing piece by not taking a risk. We have no tradeable assets that could come close to landing us a star, if Paul George wants to come here, great. But he doesn’t.

So it’s someone like Parker, or its re-sign Favors, and hope Exum or a draft pick becomes awesome.

If anyone can offer a realistic scenario to getting a better player then I’m all ears.

Fair enough. I consider PG on the edge of the baseline requirement, so I understand the trepidation or outright disagreement. All other factors considered, I think PG is a homerun, and I just feel like the last year could have been a good one for him.

Of course, I can only speculate on where his head is at. It just feels like the kinda-douchey PG is the outlier more than it is the mean.

Agree, But I'd also argue Paul George doesn't fit your first requirement. He's been shown that he thinks he is the team and that the team doesn't come first. Also he's not coming here.

Nah one dumb statement doesn’t reveal his whole character... how much dumb **** did you say in you mid 20s.

I’d drive to the airport to pick him up if he wanted to come.

The last blue chip piece may have to come like our other blue chip pieces... through the draft.

Middleton is the most realistic option... he’s not a name brand star per se but in our system could have a similar affect. Not the same position but he could be the Chauncey Billups that ties a lot of our stuff together but isn’t an obvious all star.

Don't get me wrong if they could sign him I think it's worth the risk. I just worry about his head and if he'd take a bit of a backseat to a 2nd year player.

The Jazz really only have theoretical caproom, which is why I'm so protective of it.

So ultimately, the question is how the Jazz utilize it to land this person. Taking on dead salary to pick up more liquid, valuable assets seems like A way, but it's also risky as it requires several more steps if they even come to fruition (i.e. draft picks that are either used to draft or used as bait in hopes it's enough to grab one of these guys).

I’ll just trust DL. Have confidence in whatever he does until proven otherwise.

Speculation and discussion is fun. But this is a well run franchise, so it’s a situation where by far the guy who knows best is thankfully the same guy making the decisions.

Perhaps what we need to be looking for is an young, somewhat under-the-radar (perhaps underachieving) guy that could have that Oladipo jump in him.

I mention Wiggins because all the tools are obviously there. Mentally, he seems like a product of his surroundings, so maybe the culture change could be the catalyst for fulfilling his promise? I have some similar but different feelings on Gordon.

Porter really is a question mark to me. He seems like he could be game-planned out of a game if he lacks punch off-the-dribble. And I basically never see him play.
I’ve kinda felt that way about Wiggins since before he was drafted, though.

RIP me. This thread is sure to get buried, but I had to write it out for my own sanity, and it's reference material if nothing else. Thanks for your damn time. I hate my life.

We have to play the long game here I think... a guy like middleton or Tobias Harris in FA doesn’t put us over the top. Hitting on a pick like Rudy, DM, Giannis, Draymond, jokic, jimmy butler, like we need to get effing lucky.

Get more chances at it by taking on some salary if u think there are guys there... try and find an unprotected pick from a team that thinks they will be good (like Brooklyn)... okay maybe those trades aren’t out there.

Gotta get lucky... try multiple avenues but those long shot picks can’t be sold to speed up the process in my mind... Danny ainge is a dick but he is so patient... it is paying off big time now.

I have zero skin in the Jabari game but would love to hear why you didn’t include him.

Also, well thought out initial post.
Has a reputation as being somewhat lazy. Has blinders on after he decides to score. Always been a bad defender. Unathletic, very concerning injury history. Has said some lame **** in the press.

I don't think the fit is there.
