What's new

Hayward

I literally have almost no feeling for or against Hayward. I would just love the fans not to boo him. It would be such a great PR and strategic move to just treat him like the milquetoast star player he is. I'm gonna be so disappointed when the fans are rowdy and some news breaks that 2 of them crossed the line and Utah is so racist etc. I can feel the cringe even now.

I'm definitely gonna boo him. Probably will say something racist. Thanks for the idea.

Yeah this is the consensus I've heard from Jazz fans. They really value their ability to boo even if it makes the fanbase look terrible. It's part of Utah's charm, I guess.

I like the reputation we have, personally. No reason to try and change something wonderful.

You’re acting as if we’re somehow going to change that perception. It honestly doesn’t matter what we do — the perception is there and it wouldn’t change if we showed up for 5 years in Sunday best and kept quiet. In fact, the perception would probably just grow.

Yes, telling someone to shut up is far worse than stalking someone to their place of employment.
Would you please stop bringing this up. You don't know the circumstances or the result. I didn't stalk; I just asked the person to stop harassing me. You know how long ago this was -- ten years ago.

Seriously the guy is an arsehole and deserves every bit of hate coming his way. Fans should be waiting at the airport to throw toxic medical waste at the team bus. **** him and his lesbian lover coach.

I actually agree with this part. I'm not upset that he left. It's just HOW he did it, and the fact that he didn't allow us to get something in return. The Jazz invested a LOT in him.

That said, I'm glad that the 3rd best player on our team isn't the 4th highest paid player in the whole league (if you know what I mean). That just doesn't seem like a healthy cap situation.

Sorry to pile on. I've said my peace. I'm done. Moving on now.

Just think, if that POS would have requested a S&T where we send him and a second rounder to Boston in exchange for a second rounder, we’d be sitting on a $30M trade exception this summer and all this cap room crap would be a non-issue.

For instance, if Washington is looking to clear space, we could trade Tomic and a pick for Porter.

"The Jazz invested a LOT in him."

Yes and that was so selfless and unusual for the jazz to do that. Don't they try to maximize all their assets all the time? That argument is bogus.

I don't think so. A perception doesn't change immediately, but not booing Hayward would at least eliminate that story from happening like it almost certainly will if fans just let out all their bottled up vitriol. The next time there's a chance to boo a former player there would be another chance to not have a story come up about it. If nobody gets in players faces (I don't think the guys did anything particularly wrong personally) then that isn't a story. Over time that lack of controversy would just make it a non-issue.

But again I don't think there's any chance that actually happens. I think it's dumb to boo and get in the faces of the opposing players, personally. But it's hard to prove that it actually hurts the team in any tangible way. So, whatever.

I think we could refine it and keep the good parts (the intensity, some of the heckling and noise) while eliminating the bad parts. That would include booing every former player that did anything wrong when leaving, or any of the over-the-top heckling. But like I said there are too many fans who value that kind of stuff for whatever reason so it's not something that's going to change.

That's not on Hayward. No way is Hayward going to refuse to sign because Boston won't give us a trade exception. It's a gentleman's move between GM's. Ainge is no gentleman. He always wants to win every deal and screw over as many teams as he can. That's who he is; he's an *******. But a very shrewd *******. He's going to have one of the top-2 teams in the East for years to come.

He could have demanded it because it would pay him more, or so he could get a larger % increase each year. Of course, he’s passive so he didn’t want to rock the boat. But yes, Ainge is a douche. He wouldn’t even throw his son a political bone that would cost him nothing but good will.
