Top 5 Targets for Summer 2018

I don’t want him for anything near 15 million a year regardless of who we cut.

It wouldn’t matter. It’s $5M more than Burks and unless there’s a way we can trade Burks without taking salary back, it’s not going to affect our effective cap space.

I’ll take your word for it, but it seems 15M is still 15M and two three years down the road there’s a good chance we might want that off the books, plus isn’t he similar to Royce O’Neale?

He has one year left.

Carroll is a 3/4 at this point. He has one year left at $15.4 million. So we’d be swapping Burks’ expiring contract for Carroll’s expiring contract.

He’d essentially fill the exact same role as Thabo did with better offense and shooting, but less defense (still better than Burks though). One of the big reasons the Nets didn’t trade him last year was because of the leadership he brought.

Gobert/Favors/Bradley at the 5, Favors/Crowder/Carroll/Jingles at 4/3, O’Neale, Mitchell, Exum and Rubio at the guard spots. Plus Burks if he stays and/or using the MLE on another offensive guy like I suggested.

Love Harris too. A lot of what he does on offense reminds me of Ingles. I think the Nets make sure to bring him back. It’s a big reason that I think Carroll comes available - Harris moves into the starting lineup on a new contract and they save at least a couple million in the process.

Plus Burks? He’d be in the Carroll trade.

Burks for Carroll is ideal, but I could see them flipping the three non-guaranteed guys for a player they want or an asset for the future. That was the only reason I included him. I don’t think he’ll be back here, but I’m not sure I’d rule it out either.

I definitely prefer that they trade Burks for Carroll and then use the other three to add an asset of major value. Cap space should be pretty valuable this year. Hope they use it wisely.

When it comes to this Carroll conversation, who is more valuable to us next season between Burks, Thabo, Jerekbo and Udoh? I tend to think Burks is the most valuable because he showed in the playoffs that he can catch fire sometimes.

And what gives us more value in a trade? Burks' $11.5 expiring next year or 3 nonguaranteed contracts? I tend to think the contracts are more valuable.

So trade the nonguaranteed contracts, keep Burks a year, and let it all expire going to 2019.

Definitely not JJ imo.

I'd probably say Udoh. Because if we don't re-sign Favors (I mean, he did sell his house in Utah and could get more money elsewhere), we have no one other than Bradley behind Gobert.

At least O'Neale and Exum can play the 2 behind Mitchell. Even Ingles some.

Sef would be my second choice.

Saw an interesting fan trade that may work draft day and made some sense.

Lakers ship Kuzma, Deng, and #25 to Utah for Udoh, Thabo, Jarebko, and Burks
Denver ships #14 for #21, #25, and #52
Utah ships #21, Udoh, Thabo, Jarebko, and Burks for Deng, Kuzma, and #14.

Lakers get cap space for their pending bonanza, Denver accrues some additional picks to build out their roster as they need, Utah gets Kuzma as their stretch 4 and #14 to grow along with Mitchell while eating Deng's contract for a few years. I like it myself.

You like giving up nothing for a great young player? Tell me more.

I think the Lakers can sign Lebron and PG13 without doing that. They would be better served to keep Kuzma.

They could potentially roll this lineup out.

Ball
PG13
Kuzma
Lebron
Ingram.

Thats a good small ball lineup to match up against the Warriors.

In fact, I predict thats what happens.

I know Sefelosha will be older next year. But he did also just have his career best year and was very impactful for the Jazz.

Before Sef got hurt he had the best net rating on our team at the time of any player getting significant minutes. He was one of our best players the first half of the season.

Im not opposed to waiving him if we have a big free agent to chase but other than that he should be kept. There are very few role players we can pick up who will be as good as him on the Jazz.

Uhhhhhh... The Lakers MIGHT use one of those assets to offload Deng, and it would almost certainly just be the pick. There is no way they use both the pick and Kuzma.

As a general rule - if you see a trade that nets the Jazz a budding star + a lottery pick, and doesn't involve Donovan and/or Rudy, it's not happening.
