Locke and Prospects

I only started regularly listening to locked on jazz this year and had a question on his draft coverage last year - we know now he was sworn to secrecy on Mitchell after his workout. On the podcast this time last year was he sandbagging Mitchell, was he meh or was he honest / optimistic about him? Trying to read between the lines the way he is describing some of these prospects for this draft.

Good question. There’s so much smoke and ******** leading up to the draft.

Locke telegraphs the **** out of our picks lol.

2011 loves Burks, Jazz draft Burks.
2012 no first rounder
2013 talks about Gobert's insane workout a lot, Jazz draft Gobert.
2014 in love with Aaron Gordon. Gordon picked ahead of Jazz and I'm like 90% sure we would have drafted him if he was available.
2015 madly madly in love with Trey Lyles. Jazz draft Lyles
2016 said he wasn't in love with anyone. Jazz trade out.
2017 telegraphed the Bradley pick. And to answer your question about Mitchell, he didn't really wax poetic about the workout, but he talked a lot about how big a deal it was that he worked out with the Jazz. I called that the Jazz were trading up for Mitchell and the people I was watching with thought I was a wizard.
2018 he seems to love Grayson Allen which is why some people in the draft thread are freaking out lol.

Last year he would mention the workout but he wouldn’t mention who had that amazing workout...turned out to be Donovan.

Today he was talking a lot of good about Grayson Allen. If the Jazz draft that kid I’ll be pissed. I do not want him on the team. Please...please....please do not draft him. I also remember him talking about Lyles and then they drafted him.

That makes zero sense. Allen isn’t even first round talent. Unless the jazz trade the 21 pick they aren’t drafting Allen.

Who else is locking pumping?

He apparently impressed at the combine, and Locke was kind of pumping him today. They cannot draft him. Not only the talent....you trip Donovan and he has to slap you.....you’re dead to me.

Allen's a Dukie just like Quin. Wouldn't be my first choice, but I'm ok with whoever Dennis and Quin select. I do think Jazz are more in "immediate contribution" mode rather than development.

Allen looks like a good player. Its just his reputation of trying to hurt players that is the downside right? Well Draymond and CP3 are no strangers to cheap shots either. He will fit right in. We will have our own fiery hot headed guy getting under people's skin.

Wasn’t he talking nice about Melvin Frazier the other day? I really like him a lot. And Jacob Evans. And Elie Okobo. And Josh Okogie. There’s a lot of guys that fit the 2/3 mold that I like.

Age, size, on-field shenanigans (that's the thing - by all accounts he's actually a good kid off the floor, but he does stupid things on the floor in the heat of the moment)... lack of wiggle on offense, lack of size and lateral movement on D. Those are the main concerns about him.

Does Allen get better with better spacing? I think maybe. Are the Jazz drafting a starter or a contributor. There's a downside all of them at this point the draft.

Grayson would not be my choice, but I would not be mad at the pick. Seems like he could be a solid bench player for the next 8-10 years. We have to realize that we are picking at #21 and most guys never amount to anything after the lottery. If we feel that Grayson is more of a sure thing, I will trust DL.

I personally would rather Frazier and hope he can turn into an Ariza type player.

You guys are nuts. Drafting Allen at 21??? That should be infuriating to you. Allen at the end of th 1st or in the 2nd? Sure. But not at 21.

Maybe the Jazz FO read here, and know he telegraphs things, so they are feeding him false info or telling him who to talk about.
I'd do that if I were the Jazz FO. "Don't lie, but talk about these people" because you know you aren't going to draft them.

I don't know how likely this is because I also have a hard time seeing the Jazz FO saying that. They might say to be quiet about something, but I don't think they are to the misdirection levels of gaming.

We're picking at #21, if he amounts to any sort of rotation player I'd say that's a win.

Honestly, I think we'll move out of #21.

The last two times the Jazz drafted someone I hated, one was Hayward (who ended up becoming really good but is the resident fedora of NBA "stars" and hosed us over it), the other was Trey Lyles.

Absolutely **** drafting Grayson Allen.
