You can find perimeter defenders in any draft, all over the draft. Finding a defensive center is one of the most difficult things a team can do (and the beginning and end point of a strong defense). He's 18, and you can live with poor offense out of the one position this guy will be playing.

This.

We've been looking f20+ years for this mythical athletic defensive big man. They don't come around too often.
We already have the offensive focus of our bigs in Big Al. Sap and Favors can provide offense too. If the Jazz are convinced this kid
can defend in the NBA he should be above Jimmer etc with that #12th pick.

The guy will not be in the game during crutch time if he cant score or shoot free throws.

Do we need him late in the game? I think Favors and Al should close out games. We can't play everyone at once. Bismack
provides some punch off the bench, and gets a lot of mins. Favors and Al close the deal.

Great, Jazzfanz arguing for another one a deez. How wonderfully fulfilling this will be:

"Hey, big dude, go stand at the top of the key. We'll pass you the ball and you can ball fake back and forth until something develops. Meanwhile, your defender will back off damn near to the arc and clog the lane for our other bigs and slashers."

This worked extremely well in the past. In fact, it won Utah Jazz multiple championships. I don't know anyone in their right mind who would pass on a defensive big who cannot score, but is otherwise perfect for the Utah Jazz system. That system isn't exactly here anymore, but let's drag it back out to fulfill our longtime fantasies anyway.
