Mom battling school board because of yoga.

Not my beliefs but I don’t really see the problem here.

If a religious exemption was given and then the child was put into the daily class anyways I can understand the parents being upset. School should provide an exclusion process and then honor that decision imo.

Yeah sounds like the school ****ed up. That said, come on people, it's ****ing yoga.

While I am all for accommodating religious beliefs in schools some people need to really grow some skin and do not get freaking anal about small things like that. Yoga is harmless and in no way I would make a big fuss about it if I was still a catholic. It's not like like they fed some jewish student pork without his consent.

To this family of Catholics it is. Who are you to decide it’s not? For the record o agree with you. Really? But ok...

That’s the whole point of providing religious exemptions for things like this.

The school should have more upfront about the need to file a paper request for a religious accommodation. Absent such paperwork, I don't fault them for forgetting to apply the exemption for one child to a second child.

Requesting to be transferred to another school seems over-the-top for mom, once the accommodation has been filed and followed. It seems like she is looking to blame and punish people.

I'm all good with yoga but it's mostly pointless with children who are essentially made of rubber. One of my colleagues does it for reasons unknown, i've considered doing it as i've got older for flexibility but the whole meditation thing is as a whole is a massive turn off. I feel as a committed atheist I'd be put in a position to either tell the teacher to **** off or not participate (which if i'm missing 10 minutes of a 1 hour class i should get a discount for? ), to me its a great big **** like all spiritual ********.

Meditation and yoga do not have to be "spiritual" practices. They are good for mind and body. While I haven't done much yoga, regular meditation makes my life go better - I'm calmer, clearer, better. I'm also an atheist, and I do not feel like I am reaching out to a higher power, but reaching inward for my own power.

This. Though I don't feel like reaching for a power but as a way to get unnecessary things out of the way. Meditation works differently on people.

I am also what you would call an atheist. I just don't care about the concept of god.

Some parents are indeed ******* crazy. I have first hand knowledge of that fact.

I'm all for yoga. I often meditate upon fine young ladies wearing yoga pants.
The problem arises when some 200+ lb woman crams her jelly rolls into them and thinks she's sexy parading around in public.
