2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

So everybody is perfectly fine paying Blake Griffin type money to Tobias Harris? Year one of a max deal for him would be $33 million and I'm sure we would have to guarantee at least 4 years or give him player options.

Just making sure...

I'm fine with the Porter experiment because he makes $7+ less than Tobias the next two years. And two years of Porter is a good enough time to give it a go but not mortgage everything past Donovan's rookie deal and Gobert's current deal. After all, Porter makes about what Favors and Thabo make combined but he could emerge as our missing piece.

Absolutely! He's likely the best player we could ever realistically hope to land in free agency.

Man Tobias here would be night and day to Favors/Rubio. Someone who can actually give us 20 pts consistently.
Favors is 19.1pts, 12.6rbs, 2ast, 2.1 blk, 1.3stl per 36 minutes when playing center. Favors is a great player who is very capable of averaging 20-ish points a game... he's just stuck on a team with a top 3 center in the league so he has to play out of position/reduced role.

I thought that the Clippers were gonna go hard after Durrant and Kawhi? If that's the case, wouldn't there be a window where another team could call on midnight when FA opens and give Harris a max offer? I think if LA prioritizes elsewhere he'd be stupid not to sign a max deal somewhere else.

Jimmy Butler might be in play for the Clips as well.

The Clippers don't run sophisticated plays. They do a lot of isos. I think we could make Tobias look even more efficient than he has been, just by giving him consistent looks and solid screens.

Exactly! Favors is a great player but he's a square peg trying to fit in a round hole on this team. Tobias on the other hand would be an amazing fit.

Not trade but here's Donovan recruiting:

Thanks for posting this. I was hoping that DM or Ingles would talk to Harris post-game, glad to see it actually happened, wow.
It's no secret that Utah is chasing Tobias Harris since two years. Perhaps DM was instructed to talk to Harris who almost is the perfect PF for this team's system. He can very efficiently post 20-23 ppg for us so I'd gladly give him a large contract this summer.

If the final version of whatever this team is was:

Conley
Mitchell
Ingles
Porter
Gobert

How do you feel about it?

Bench the same + MLE and such type guys to round it out.

Let’s say it was Faves for Porter and Rubio’s expiring and a first for Conley.

Hey, Fav can play with Gobert. 14 mins at PF and 16 mins at C.
The problem is Rubio who is usually left open on the perimeter. Replace Rubio with '16 George Hill and you suddenly see Fav - Gobert is a deadly duo with no spacing issues . I also think Fav's 3P shooting form is great and his release is getting quicker, and he'll start shooting it consistently well not long after.

I like Harris as an offensive player, but his defense makes him a liability. Total career rebounding avg is currently 6 rpg. Not to mention 0.8 spg, and 0.5 bpg. So many teams are turning to a gunning offense, and I think we're on the right point with our focus on defense. Plus Harris declined a 4 year $80 million extension from the Clippers to enter FA. Any team outside can offer a 4 year $145 million, while the Clippers will be able to offer a 5 year $188 million contract. I definitely don't think that he is a max guy in the NBA especially that he is banking on his recent career high numbers while with the Clippers.

Everybody is 100% healthy and Favors is still only playing 23 minutes per game. That number goes down against a Houston or GS in the playoffs.

Against a GS team starting Cousins and Green, and probably finishing with them, you think going with a smaller PF is the better call?

Based on what I’m reading here... all we want is amazing talent that helps put us over the top... but we don’t want to pay a lot... seems reasonable.

I’m not a fan of conleys deal... wouldn’t give up the first there.

I think that team would have the potential to be contenders.
It would be risky but it would be even riskier to just stick with the guys we got.

I would love it if that was our team going into next year
