Yeah, they are. Not saying it excuses Westbrook's behavior, but makes it more understandable, expect for threatening the dude's wife if she truly didn't say anything. Either way, that fan should be banned from ESA.

I do think players need to keep emotions in check and watch how they talk around fans. There are a lot of young kids going to games, and the stuff I hear players saying isn't acceptable IMO. I'm not sure how players can talk to refs they way they do either. I hear them put up with a lot (and then give techs for what appear to be rather innocuous statements). A bit baffling.

That said, I have been to a ton of Jazz games near the court, and have never heard any racist comments. As fans, we need to make sure this crap isn't happening. I'm all for heckling players, but there is a right way to do it.

I wonder if he’s related to Pittsburgh Steeler and former BYU great Brett Keisel
He is.
Another interesting note, I worked with a guy who was also related to Brett keisel who sadly committed suicide

To Westbrook's credit he apologized about the wife part of it and said he would never lay hands on a woman

I don’t view Utah as racist as much as I view it closed off. People mean well but some of them are absolute IDIOTS

Utah has a lot of bigots, both with race and religion but so are people other places. And while the bigots may be in the minority, there are still too many of them. Much of it is revealed through stupidity, but racism doesn't have to be mean spirited to be systematic. I have seen too much of it in Utah.

The Indiana and Utah fanbases are both white, yes... and I can't think of any other difference that might exist between them. LOL

Have you been to Indy? There is a very large black population, and the state as a whole is about 10%. Utah's black population is about 1%. I'd say that is a pretty big difference.

Not sure if that link will work

Wow, that's some ridiculous ****. As a player you should call in security if it gets that bad.

The NBA needs to coordinate with the owners to have security near the benches so that it doesn't get to this point. Fans need to be held accountable and players shouldn't get involved. It's part of being a professional, you prepare yourself for idiots like Keisel.

The OP implied that Indiana and Utah are similarly white. I don't know about that. I HAVE been there, but I still know little about it except there seems to a lot of farming there. Just like people who have never been to Utah, what is the one thing they know about it? There are a lot of Mormons here. I'm not complaining about this, or expect people to know everything about Utah. People are generally pretty ignorant about places where they don't spend much time.

My problem with all of this and politics in general, the Left or the Right is that no one wants to take responsibility for their actions, and instead point out the actions of others. This thread is making me see mine and made me realize I need to start taking responsibility for my actions in life and on jazzfanz. I love the jazz, but I need to take a step back and not take it so seriously. I’ve done my share so attacking others, people like @LoPo @Maneesh @Batman and plenty more. I’m talking less jazz because of it and it pisses me off. I recognize I need to do better and treat others here and outside jazzfanz better. It’s ok for me to disagree with someone’s opinions and share mine, but all I do is attack those other opinions different from mine and that’s wrong.

I need a break from jazzfanz for a while. Maybe I’ll be back, hopefully I’ll be back in the future, bye.

Go jazz!!

Who would attack such an adorable character as Maneesh, sheesh!

There is something different about the state of Utah... and you are either trolling or the last and most ignorant person

What's your point? Utah is Mormon compared to Indiana - alright, great. So black players have bad things to say about playing the Jazz in Utah not because the fanbase is predominantly white - but because of the strong Mormon contingent? Just explicitly state your point instead of talking in vague terms.

I was responding to a post that suggested that fans everywhere in the league heckle the players - implying that somehow all the accusations levied against our fanbase are false.

Bawse dawg turning this into a stereotype is hysterical. Get out of here with that. Lets find out what really happened and get the guy banned if he did indeed cross the line with something racial.
