How can Tech companies tackle this issue of people live-streaming and posting these horrible events? Or should they?

Portions of the ghastly attack at the downtown mosque were broadcast live on social media by a man who police confirmed had also released a manifesto railing against Muslims and immigrants. The 74-page document states that he was following the example of notorious right-wing extremists, including Dylann Roof, who murdered nine black churchgoers in Charleston, S.C., in 2015.

The manifesto, littered with conspiracy theories about white birthrates and “white genocide,” is the latest sign that a lethal vision of white nationalism has spread internationally. Its title, “The Great Replacement,” echoes the rallying cry of, among others, the torch-bearing protesters who marched in Charlottesville in 2017.

The digital platforms apparently enlisted in the shooting highlight a distinctly 21st-century dimension of mass gun violence — one sure to put more pressure on social media companies already under scrutiny about how they police their services.

Also, how is his manifesto any different than what you’ll see on Fox News every night from Hannity, Ingraham, Carlson, and Pirro? Literally, the post could’ve erased the reference and told us that it was said on Fox News last night and I doubt anyone would’ve been surprised.

The Australian-born suspect who shot dead dozens of Muslim worshippers in Christchurch, New Zealand, has published a manifesto citing US President Donald Trump and Anders Breivik, the Norwegian white supremacist who murdered 77 people in Norway in 2011.

The 74-page dossier by Brenton Tarrant, which has been described by Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison as a "work of hate", praised Trump as "a symbol of renewed white identity and common purpose".

And Dylann Roof. He was a huge fan of him. Had this guy lived in the United States, he probably would’ve marched in Charlottesville. You know, very fine people.

The Atlantic just published an essay describing a chapter in American history that is not well known to Americans. Madison Grant's 1916 work, "The Passing of the Great Race" was even cited by Hitler, who referred to Grant's book as "my bible". In view of the rise of white nationalism, this essay is educational, to say the least:

"The seed of Nazism’s ultimate objective—the preservation of a pure white race, uncontaminated by foreign blood—was in fact sown with striking success in the United States. What is judged extremist today was once the consensus of a powerful cadre of the American elite, well-connected men who eagerly seized on a false doctrine of “race suicide” during the immigration scare of the early 20th century. They included wealthy patricians, intellectuals, lawmakers, even several presidents. Perhaps the most important among them was a blue blood with a very impressive mustache, Madison Grant. He was the author of a 1916 book called The Passing of the Great Race, which spread the doctrine of race purity all over the globe.

Grant’s purportedly scientific argument that the exalted “Nordic” race that had founded America was in peril, and all of modern society’s accomplishments along with it, helped catalyze nativist legislators in Congress to pass comprehensive restrictionist immigration policies in the early 1920s. His book went on to become Adolf Hitler’s “bible,” as the führer wrote to tell him. Grant’s doctrine has since been rejuvenated and rebranded by his ideological descendants as “white genocide” (the term genocide hadn’t yet been coined in Grant’s day). In an introduction to the 2013 edition of another of Grant’s works, the white nationalist Richard Spencer warns that “one possible outcome of the ongoing demographic transformation is a thoroughly miscegenated, and thus homogeneous and ‘assimilated,’ nation, which would have little resemblance to the White America that came before it.” This language is vintage Grant.

Fully anonymous imageboards have become a hive for violent extremists over the past decade. Those places should be under continuous ddos, so that its users are denied a platform and are forced to moderate their tone on forums that offer a much lower level of anonymity. Like the white supremacists on this forum.

Forums for dirtbag right wingers are already trying to push the idea that the attack was a leftist false flag operation to make them look bad.

Well that was predictable.
