Has anybody disproved the scenario Andy Larsen floated?: keep both Favors and Exum while acquiring Conley through capspace by:
- waiving Neto
- waiving and stretching Korver
- trading Crowder and Allen to Memphis along with (presumably) pick #23
I know this would give Numberica a conniption, but I kind of like it. (Presumably Exum and Crowder could be swapped in the deal , but I'd guess the relative value of the players to the two teams might favor Crowder moving to Memphis.) I have no idea whether Memphis would value this, but it's a bold move that retains players the Jazz seem to have shown they value (for better or worse) and maintains the Jazz's defensive identity.
So you'd have:
Starters
Conley
Mitchell
Ingles
Favors
Gobert
Rotation
Exum (cross your fingers)
O'Neale
Niang (cross your fingers)
Room Exception FA
Deep Bench
Bradley
Rookie?
Several minimum guys (if the FA class is as deep relative to the available money as Lopo keeps saying it is, there ought to be players out there who can help, maybe even as a rotation player)
Unless I understand this wrong, the FA options are swapping Conley for (a chance to woo/get spurned by) Russell or Harris; and then retain Crowder, Allen, Neto, and #23 rather than Favors, with everything else being more or less similar. Since Allen, Neto, and #23 are likely deep bench, at least for next year, and can easily be replaced, it comes down to whether you prefer Crowder or Favors. I prefer Favors, but understand why some may not.
