Jazz front runner for Conley

I have championship goals. And to get there you have to be willing to take a chance at some point. Ya gotta risk it for that biscuit. We can't play the longterm game trying to wait for the ideal move forever because time will just pass us by. And we'll look back and regret not making a move.

God, thinking about it, the above paragraph reminds me of my teenage years tbh. I wasted so many good opportunities that were presented to me because I expected even better things would come along later or thought "hey I'm young I have time". **** I'm glad that I eventually stopped living that way.

We have championship pieces who just arent there yet. Mitchell will be a super star. Gobert, although not a two way star, is right there as a quality center. I think O'Neale will end up being better than some give him credit for. If we can find other up and comers with them, we can be a force.

For those comparing Conley to the Kawhi Toronto situation or saying that Curry is about the same age, shame on y'all. Those aren't even close to the same. I do feel that Conley makes us better, but I don't think he will stay good enough for Mitchell to hit superstar status and O'Neale to hit really good status. We cash in all our chips for 1 maybe 2 great "maybe make the WCF" years then we are grasping at straws without recent draft picks to build up again.

If we can get Conley for #23, do it. If we have to give up much more, pass.

Well, you did say "big name free agents" I liked Joe Johnson when he was on the Jazz, but he wasnt a big name free agent at that stage of his career

i wasn't referring to "Big name free agents" at all. I've been encouraging the entire opposite. FA are much more than just the "big name free agents"

Exactly Boozer decent with LeBron Memo was a role player with Detroit winning the title so no not elite. The league would laugh at this statement of those 2 being considered elite. Joe Johnson was washed up by the time he got here but had enough in the tank to help us beat the clippers in 7

Boozer and Okur weren't elite free agents dude. Blue collar at the most
Joe Johnson was has been isojoe at the time.

Time will tell with point 3, still won't amount to anything substantial.
booz and okur weren't elite free agents??? blue collar at the most???

lololololololol

You misinterpreted my comment. I agreed that Memo and Boozer were bigger names free agents. Boozer would have had a lot of suitors, it's just that the Jazz made him an offer he couldnt refuse. Memo was a young good center that played behind Rasheed and Ben Wallace. In limited minutes Memo was good, and other teams knew that too.

you said it yourself. we as a small market team will not attract elite free agents. but FA is much more than just those "elite free agents". all Okur, booz and Iso-Joe have helped us as a franchise moving forward, probably more so than Mike Conley ever would should we acquire him.

Big name free agents? We’ve landed Danny Manning, Tom Chambers, John Starks, Mark “I’m a huge douche” Jackson, plus Corey Maggette and Jason Terry.

but now people here are acting like getting players like Boozer or memo are waste of time, and we should focus only on players of KD, Kawhi, or anyone of the so-called "elite" caliber

You must be drinking the koolaid on those 2 buddy. Boozer and Memo weren't elite. They turned out to be great in our system with Jerry and his offense here. They left all-stars. But what were they as free agents? not elite man.

Boozer barely averaged a double double in Cleveland and Memo's stats were weak in Detroit. They were up and comers with potential. All I'm saying is we need to win now with proven players not with potential prospects. I'm not trying to put our beloved team in a rushed win now mode but we can't be passive and standoffish any longer. The chance of winning a title is as wide open now as it has ever been

qThe Western conference is up for grabs this season, I would rather trade or sign known immediate talent than a prospect

Edit: me being dumb

That's a misinterpretation... I'm not implying that at all.

All those guys were washed up when they came here and the last 2 didn't even play here were matched on restricted deals, but I give you the fact that they has intentions to play here.

do you honestly think they would come here have them become established all-stars already?

you said it yourself, we as a small market team do not attract big name free agents. so what are our ways of getting star players? through trade, draft AND sign them BEFORE they become one.

Is there really a whole lot of difference between signing boozer/memo and acquiring someone like Mitchell in the draft? they were all young, underrated and yet to achieve their full potential.

of course we've seen cases of players failing to develop/achieving the minimum expectation, but I've said it time and time again, YOU CAN'T WIN IF YOU DON'T PLAY.

why not both? there are players in the FA who can contribute right away while also having rooms to develop. can't be one-dimensional.

Again I'm not trying to debate or argue. I'm just saying we have to put all our chips in to win now. There is a negative cycle In Utah. Draft a prospect then they leave when their deal expires. Trade for players or sign older or non impactful players.

How do we change this ? Get someone like Conley to help the core we have to get to the next level.

Why though ? Any other factors but age?
And health ? I get it

I strongly believe Conley is way better. More dangerous scorer better bball iq and more versatile.
Conley is a proven commodity, Russel IS younger (you cant ignore age), if it's a cheaper contract then yeah, and Russel is what, 23? He is only going to improve
