Conley Officially a Jazzman

Why you ain't high on Gay? Good rebounder, creator, and shooter.
Probably carryover from my view of him 8-9 years ago where he was the epitome of an empty calories guy. He did have a really good year from three this year and scores at a decent clip, plus is rebounding decently. I kinda take my previous view + his achilles injury and don't really give him a fair shake, but I'd rather take him and the added flexibility over Favors.

If they got him for 11M ish… then see if we can sign Ed Davis that would be great.

We are in win now mode. Love, if healthy, will be our Gasol.

Not if he gets played off the court because he cannot defend 4's.

Offensively he's a good fit. Defensively he's a horrific fit. His contract is awful because of the amount and length.

He hasn't played more than 60 games since the 15-16 season. He's losing what little athleticism he had. He's coming off of a year where he shot sub 40% overall.

He makes us a worse team in the playoffs. He makes us a worse team in 2-3 years bc of his contract. He can only guard 5's right now. How in the flying hell is that a fit?!

Kevin Love makes us a worse team, point blank. It's a dumb idea. Favors isn't perfect, or ideal even, but we are better with Favors than Love.

Shoot for the stars jazz! Go all in this year! We have seen the favors and Gobert tandem for years now and it doesn't work. Give us the Love and Gobert season! Trade dedum and Favors for him!

**** no I’d rather have Favors on the court than Love on the injured list.

So here is something I discovered... we are a little bit short cap space wise of doing this trade if you assume that Neto and Favs both end up being guaranteed. It isn't a huge amount about $400-500k... so one of them is getting waived or we are sending out Tony Bradley or some other piece.

Maybe we aren't going to keep Favs... Maybe he is traded and we needed the appearance that we could keep Favs if we wanted... or maybe Neto is out.
That is very interesting. I'm kind of hoping we pull off a deal using Favors.

Miami wants to dump 2019 amd 2020 money. Boston is trying to send #22 to dump Baynes. Cleveland wants a higher pick. We need multiple depth guys.

Miami gets Favors, JR Smith and #22
Boston get future protected 2nds from everyone
Cavs get Waiters and #13
Jazz get Olynyk, Baynes, and #26

Miami saves money this year and next. Boston sheds Baynes. Cavs move up in the draft. Jazz get two quality hustle bigs and a late 1st without screwing up the financials for the Conley deal.

Those two aren't as good as Favors, but we desperately need the depth.

We can find the thing Love does in FA or on the market for so much less... now that we have Conley I think we could go on the budget side of stretch 4s. If he was a stretch and playmaking 4 it'd be different and I'd say go for it.

I bet it wouldn't cost a whole lot for Bjelica… as a matter of fact... the word on the street is that Kangs ain't all that keen on paying WCS long term. He's a different dude and if he secures the bag I could see him checking out of basketball a bit. Maybe a Favs for Bjelica deal... maybe we swipe the #40 in the process. They get a good center option on a decent one year salary... can keep Barnes and still likely have max space. If Giles or Bagley prove they are ready then you move on from Favs after a year.

We'd still have 10M and room exception to hunt for depth pieces.

I also just think we could roll with Royce at the 4 but then need another 2/3 that can come off the bench. I will die on the "Royce should be our small ball big wing" hill. He rebounds and is thicc for a wing... could spot up shooter and can attack a close out. Can switch 1-4.

I don't think Boston is sending out a pick for Baynes… I think they just want to send Baynes into someone's cap space. Those are teams that will be making deals tonight though.

True.

I do like Baynes though. We need depth in the worst way. If we kept Favors, our lack,of depth might be the reason why we can't compete.

I think there is a way we could turn Favors into Olynyk plus another solid player and a top 40 pick. The pick and/or other player would have to be worth it.

He can defend the four and get in position for rebounding. How many times did Tucker grab timely offensive boards. Who was guarding him?
He can't defend the 4 on the perimeter or in space. You have to be kidding me.
Hell niang provides what we need about as good as love and is younger, healthier and much much cheaper
