2019 NBA draft day thread

I'm notorious for being critical when we fail to make moves.

I appreciate the FO taking the time to work out the "diamond in the rough" unknown guys throughout the predraft process. I also appreciate the effort to get multiple players even if all in the last 10 selections. Getting those guys is a signal of intent. Spending that money (on two picks - #50 and #58) shows a willingness to build and take chances.

All three picks are intriguing. All are long, athletic, interesting prospects brimming with potential.

I appreciate the positive attitude and hope for the best for all three guys, but I'm quite disappointed with this draft. Getting a few guys in the 50s that would most likely have gone undrafted otherwise shows no agressiveness, just a willingness to dabble in the margins. Agressive would have been securing a mid to high second round pick the day before the draft. After step 1 in bringing in Conley I had hoped for a step 2 that would consist of getting at least 1 guy that can come in and play. I hope I'll be proven wrong, but this looks like summer league or G-league fodder.
But I'll accept it for now on the assumption that the Jazz front office is more knowledgeable than I.

So the Jazz have Mike Conley coming, drafted and/or traded for 4 from the second round and yet some of you are still complaining about lack of aggressivity from the FO. The Jazz have already proven that they can take questionable players and make them actual players i.e. Jingles, Royce, so have a little faith. And show some freaking optimism. Or don't. Either way, Conley is coming so we'll see you at the parade in June, or earlier at a game. Also, I believe the Jazz will somehow get another difference maker, but we are going to lose one in Favors.

I'm very happy with the Conley trade and very excited for next season. I just had high hopes for the draft (perhaps irrationally so) and from that perspective a bunch of guys in the 50s is not very exciting. My remark about agressiveness concerned only the draft, not the Conley trade. You're not going to change my mind that dabbling around in the 50s is different from what I expected when the FO announced they would be agressive on draft night.

I just can’t wait for the Dennisisms to come out today when talking about these guys... “Oni has elite hair follicles which displays a high level of brain activity and careful detail to hygiene it is crucial to aerodynamic velocicity and will allow him the burst juice to sustain value based success”

I get that... I wanted Paschall but more than that I just wanted them to take a few fliers and find some diamonds... all of the players they took have player archetypes that lead me to believe they could all have legit shots at being role players... so I’m going to trust the scouting... just because they aren’t the big names doesn’t mean they can be players. We didn’t pay the premium to move up but got similar player types and none of us know they are better or worse prospects.

They were aggressive in a very value based way... can’t judge the draft on draft night... unless you are the Suns who laid a steamer on the fanbases’ chest.

I can live with this view.

Guess the draft is often somewhat anticlimactic when you've been looking forward to it for a while with your list of favourite prospects all ready. The chance of them drafting the actual guy you want is quite small when you don't have a top pick. The one time I got what I wanted was when I was very young and really hoped the Jazz would draft Jacque Vaughn for some reason. Was really excited when they did. This also tells you how much I really know about all this...

I remember that too! Was driving home with my dad from a road trip... we were rooting for Vaughn and so happy when we got him. Good memory.

Maybe I am just being overly optimistic but this draft class for the Jazz feels special. We appear to have some high motor workers who know how to play and can be rotation players right off the bat with room to improve.

Is it just me or given our position in the draft, did we nail it?!?

Get one Royce type success out of the 3 and its a home run... its okay to be overly optimistic too.
