This is awesome! I've been making loans via Kiva for several years now. It's a program where people (like me) can help fund loans for people typically in third-world countries. I think of it basically as a donation, except you get the money back when they repay the loan (which most do). As a promotion for new members, it looks like they are currently giving away $25 loan gift certificates. Here's a link:

I think you get to keep the $25 if you don't want to re-loan the money after the person you loan to repays the loan. But hopefully you'll feel it rewarding enough that you'll want to re-loan the money--that's what I've been doing, reloaning the repaid money, and adding in new loans when I can.
 
good thing your helping out poor countrys the way things are going in the future with america bankrupt it will be the other way around.

I use that site to smash those cockroaches. I hire locals to provide them with competition and steal their ideas and then I take 90% off the top. If they get out of hand or try to steal my money, I send BlackWater mercenaires in to take care of them.

No actually, I love those things. Any "charity" that involves money velocity is a cool idea. I like donating to specific things rather than generalities like "disaster relief" or "rebuilding Haiti" and whatnot.

I signed up. I went with the anon Iraqi lady with my first $25:

I have a brother-in-law who is a professional financial consultant with strong involvement in "microfinance". He told me kiva is on the up-and-up.

Wouldn't it be awesome to be super rich enough one day that you could basically do what KIVA is doing but physically walk the donations to these people and take a closer look at their businesses and projects and stuff? That's what I want to be able to do.

Exactly. Roll into town in a $3,000,000 copter acting like you are going to be handing out cash. Make it this big spectacle where their whole town gathers and you hand them one of those oversized lottery checks(that eventually bounces of course) while your BlackWater(I guess it's Xe now - but nobody knows what the hell you're talking about when you say Xe) hired hands go around and destroy/posion their food supplies. That would be awesome and charity.
