Utes 2011 Football Discussion

As for this year, it sucks to suck. Join the club. At least you have your millions to roll in... the fans do get a cut don't they?
Ummmm....there are no millions this year. Utah gets 0% of the TV moneys this year.

Why would I cry when some BYU fan mentions something from 27 years ago? I might laugh so hard it brings tears to my eyes, if that's what you mean.

It's ok... I understand. Plenty of people laugh to cover pain and embarrassment. You are perfectly normal. It's also fine to say you are not crying and that you are laughing so hard it brought tears to your eyes. That's what I do when I think of the Ute Basketball team. I really feel for them, but I don't want to show it.

Zero? You think they gave KJZZ broadcast rights for free?

PAC 12 championship game was estimated to be around 20 mil last time I read about it.

Ok, I was messing with you hoping you would do the leg work on this.
The Utes will probably get around 2 Million for the Pac 12 Championship game, and what... 1 Million for the KJZZ games?

BYU gets around 2 Mil per ESPN game this year.

How much is the total pie when Utah gets a full share?

I'm being serious this post, not messing with you.

And plenty more people laugh when they see something hilarious. For example, a fan of a team that has sucked forever, but won a controversial share of a championship 27 years ago, done nothing since, got rejected by all the BCS conferences while even Air Force and Boise State got invites, and got blown out by 44 points in their homecoming game by their former rival (who has beat them 7 of the last 10 with half of them blowouts).

Now that 54-10 humiliation, that was funny.

I read that BYU wasn't getting that much from ESPN. That was only fan speculation.

Utah will be getting (I think) around 22-25 mil in TV money, plus the conference championship game money, plus the conference BCS bowl money.

I've heard speculation anywhere from 1-2 million per game, and I heard it was closer to the 2 per game for the big names like Texas, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, etc.

I also heard the Pac 12 money starts around 15 Million per year and escalates to the end of the contract. The average is around 20 Million through the life of the contract. I believe the Utes also transition into the money over 2-3 years to receive their full share, so even next year and the year after it will not be the full share. I don't have the links, I'm just going off of my faulty memory.

Each team gets 20.8 mil per year. The Utes get 50% next year, 75% the next, 100% the following year. Plus, there is money for the PAC 12 TV network, and I'm not sure how much that is.

Ole Miss has sucked for a while, that was not a big game, lol.

BYU won't release the details of their pay (they point out that it's the exposure and not the money they care about), but I read a comment from ESPN in the summer saying it wasn't as much as the rumors would have you believe. So it's anyone's guess what ESPN is actually paying them.

Hmmm.....

https://www.deseretnews.com/article/700191542/There-is-a-reason-the-Utes-are-in-a-QB-crisis.html

If you've played prep football, or even Saturdays at the park, the Utes could have a place for you.

How does quarterback sound?

That left them with Jon Hays, who got just one more Division I offer than SpongeBob SquarePants. Utah was the only major school that recruited him from Butte Community College. Now he's in deep, playing in the Pac-12, and you know the script. The Utes are as ugly as a landfill, ranking 108th in total offense. They gained just 178 yards against Cal on Saturday.

In hindsight, the coaches ended up looking short-sighted. Wynn's history of injuries stretches back a couple of years. At the same time, there are only so many quarterbacks who will sign with the same program.

Either way, the experience has made the Utes more wary.

Meanwhile, there is no painless way out of this season. The defense might keep them in games, or opponents might forget to key on running back John White, but don't plan on it. More likely the Utes will continue to lose.

For now, the Utes say they're sticking with Hays. He has a strong arm, a good attitude and he appears durable. He has said all along that all he wanted was a fighting chance.

Unfortunately for the Utes, they don't seem to have that option.

LOL gotta love all the trash talk here.

If BYU were to play Utah right now, guaranteed things would be a lot different.

While I doubt BYU beats TCU, Riley is so much better than Hypes it's not even funny. It's a night and day difference. While I'm not sure if Riley could play on many DIV I teams, I do know that Hypes doesn't belong on any. Dude is cancer. He rubbed the receivers wrong when he wasn't out passing with them during the summer. But he was the "chosen one" who had brought his "talents" to Provo and was going to win not one not two not three but four national championships.

The truth of the matter, is that both these teams suck. Especially, on offense. Neither team has an offensive line or a very good QB.

If only former Ute coach Gary Anderson wasn't such a choker in the 4th quarter. His team could have been something special this year.

Instead, I'm all about LSU and Bama this year. Those dudes are legit.

No way would BYU beat Utah right now. Utah's defense is still top notch and the run game would still run all over BYU.

BYU fans need to keep things in perspective. All the praise Riley is getting for beating crappy teams is the same praise Heaps was getting last year for beating crappy teams.

Meanwhile, Utah has been losing to good teams. Watch Utah's offense suddenly "improve" a great deal for the rest of the season now that Utah has a few easier teams on the schedule. I don't want to say they have "crappy" teams ahead in this context because they are still a whole lot better than San Jose State/Idaho State/etc. Utah has been losing to some pretty good teams. BYU is not one of those teams.

When is the last time BYU beat a team that finished with a winning record? It's been a few years, right? Well, except for that San Diego State robbery last year.

If... if... if...

If Wynn had been injured, and Roscoe knew his *** from a hole in the ground, things would have been a lot different!

That game is done. You really need to get over it.

They both have message boards. You should spend more time there.

Problem is, BYU isn't getting paid a higher rate for the Texas and Ole Miss games this year becaue those were road games that fell under the home teams TV contracts. Obviously when Texas makes the trip to Provo next year BYU will probably get a little more $$$ from ESPN, but I have to wonder how long ESPN is going to want to pay BYU $1 million dollars to play the likes of Idaho State and Idaho. Just another reason why it's crucial for them to find a long term home IMO.

This isn't neccessarily aimed at you Spazz, but I find it strange that some BYU fans take shots at Utah for not making any money the next couple of years. First of all, even though it is true that they are going to take a few years to become 100% financial members in the Pac 12, they're still making much more than they would have had they stayed in the MWC. As Salty already has posted, the windfall for Utah in the future is going to be beyond huge. Once you average out the TV money, conference championship game money, BCS money and merchandising rights, most estimates put Utah and all the other Pac 12 schools at around 30 mil/per year.

That's an astounding number considering what Utah or BYU had been pulling in during the MWC years. For the haters that expect Utah not to compete going forward, I think they vastly underestimate what Chris Hill and Kyle Whittingham can do with a program thats bringing in $30 million dollars annually.

Wait when did this thread get moved to Clutchfans and their insistent talk of their 94 & 95 championships.

Back on topic, I really need to get a antenna that will pick up the over the air feed since DTV doesn't have KJZZ HD, the one I have wont pick up most over the air channels, guess I'm to close to the tower out near 8400W.
